The Trainer will attend and successfully complete the Department of Public Welfare Office of Developmental Program (DPW/ODP) training course. The Trainer will collaborate with others in the Training Department to ensure residential new hires successfully complete the DPW/ODP med administration course. The Trainer will be responsible for all duties as outlined in the Trainer Manual including observation, reporting, and completion of all documentation as required by DPW/ODP. Upon successful completion of the DPW/ODP Training course, the Trainer: Instructs unlicensed staff on how to properly administer medications as defined in the DPW/ODP Medication Administration Manual Observes and monitors unlicensed staff as defined in the regulations by DPW/ODP Conducts medication observations and Medication Administration Record (MAR) reviews for both initial training and annual practicums Uses the Standard Checklist provided by DPW/ODP to conduct MAR reviews Conducts and documents, on existing skill sheets, annual practicum observations Conducts and documents quarterly reviews of MAR’s using standard criteria Enters results of both medication observations and quarterly MAR reviews onto the training data summary sheets Maintains all training records Provides feedback to Nursing Administration about issues raised concerning policy and procedures related to medication administration Provides feedback to Nursing Administration about specific areas of difficulty observed with regard to staff performance Participates in Woods Services QI process around medication administration to help identify systemic issues Conducts training for unlicensed staff on administering all medication routes (oral ear, eye, topical, etc). Obtains 40 hours of in-service training annually, including fire safety, CPR (certified Child/Adult), bloodborne pathogens, positive approaches, safety techniques, suicide precautions, substance abuse, cultural diversity, and passive restraints Administers medications as MTS when required Must be employed by Woods Services as an MTS for at least six months. Must attend and complete the Medication Administration Train the Trainer Course as required by DPW/ODP and maintain a Certificate of Training. Must complete and pass the medication administration course as outlined by the PA Department of Public Welfare Office of Developmental Programs Certification in Adult/Child CPR and First Aid is required. A demonstrated ability to appropriately acknowledge and respond to multiple needs of the population as required; Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Must be able to stand for several hours at a time. Prior to employment, medical certification and regulatory clearances are required Education A High school diploma and 12 semester credit hours, plus 2 years of experience working with Developmental Disabilities preferred. Will consider 5 years of experience with the Developmental Disabilities population in lieu of credit hours.
