Description of Duties

Responsible for providing supervision of multiple classes at all MFA campuses and throughout the CommonwealthReviews and summarizes student evaluationsConducts program review for Multi-Agency Public Safety (Active Shooter Hostile Event Response / Fire Investigation) and becomes involved in re‐development of existing programs and development of new programsPrepares new equipment and/or replacement equipment lists annually and submits to Program CoordinatorWorks closely with Support branch of DFS to ensure proper equipment and media are delivered to training sitesDevelops new instructors through coaching, mentoring, teaching, and guidingObserves instructors and provides guidance in program deliveryActively participates in coordinator meetingsResearches, evaluates, and prepares recommendations on curricula, instructional methods, and materials for the programDevelops tests, questionnaires, and procedures to measure effectiveness of curriculum and to determine if program objectives are metRecommends purchase of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and visual aids to meet the needs of the programWorks with staff in assessment, curriculum development, management of student behavior, and use of materials and equipmentObserves, evaluates, and recommends changes in work of instructional staff to strengthen teaching skills in classroomPlans, conducts, and evaluates training programs and other learning opportunities for instructors to study new classroom procedures, instructional materials, and teaching aidsReviews and grades written test scores and skill sheets and counsels students when necessaryPrepares subjective evaluations on students for outstanding performance and non‐acceptable performance and counsels the student and notifies the Chief of the DepartmentMay be assigned additional projects by MFA managementHosts NFA courses related to program division as needed to audit for internal instruction of state-sponsored deliveriesActively participates in simulation (SIM) software trainingsActively participates in curriculum development and virtual delivery platform trainingsResponsible for creating simulations for use in training programsAs needed, assists the Coordinator in reviewing trainingapplications submitted for credential credit

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a minimum of three years of relevant fire service or emergency service industry experience such as a fire officer, fire investigator, training officer, or fire prevention positionMust be an instructor within a training program for a minimum of five yearsMust have completed Fire Instructor II course and been promoted to Fire Instructor II with the MFA or a minimum of three years of equivalent experience of instructional curriculum development and course delivery

Preferred Qualifications:

Fire Instructor II certificationHave superior interpersonal skillsAble to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Power PointWell organized and a team playerHave a demonstrated work record to support the skills requiredHave a thorough knowledge of the Multi-Agency Public Safety and Fire Investigation programsHave completed the MFA Advanced Fire Investigator Training Program or Certified as a Massachusetts Fire Investigator or Current Fire Investigator IHave Fire Investigator Technician certification (IAAI-FIT)Be familiar with the various associated NFPA codes and standards associated with Fire Investigation including but not limited to 921 and 1033Have demonstrated record of working with the Massachusetts Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU)Have successfully completed Active Attack Integrated Response (AAIR) Train-the-Trainer 5-day program or willing to become an ALERRT Certified Instructor
