Multi Craft Maintenance Technician
**Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Technician** **Location: Huntsville, AL** **12 hr shifts 7pm - 7am** **Job Description:** We are seeking a skilled **Mechanical Maintenance Technician** to join our team in the paper manufacturing industry. As a critical member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems and equipment to ensure smooth production processes. You will work on a variety of machinery and systems, including paper machines, conveyors, pumps, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with industrial machinery, a strong understanding of mechanical principles, and the ability to solve complex mechanical problems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. **Key Responsibilities:** + **Mechanical Troubleshooting & Repairs:** + Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on paper production equipment, including paper machines, presses, dryers, conveyors, and auxiliary machinery. + Inspect and identify issues with gears, belts, rollers, pumps, motors, valves, and other mechanical components. + Perform root cause analysis on machine breakdowns to prevent reoccurrence and improve operational reliability. + **Preventive Maintenance:** + Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on machinery, including lubrication, inspection, alignment, and adjustments to keep equipment in peak operating condition. + Document and track maintenance activities, equipment performance, and any repairs made to ensure adherence to maintenance schedules and safety standards. + **Machine Setup & Calibration:** + Assist in the installation and setup of new machinery or systems, ensuring all mechanical components are functioning properly before production starts. + Calibrate mechanical systems to ensure machines are operating within specified parameters and are meeting production requirements. + **Safety & Compliance:** + Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while performing maintenance activities to ensure a safe working environment for all team members. + Conduct routine safety inspections of mechanical systems and machinery, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards. + **Collaboration & Troubleshooting Support:** + Work closely with electrical and control technicians to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues that may impact the functionality of electrical or automation systems. + Provide on-the-floor troubleshooting support to production teams during machine breakdowns or performance issues. + **Equipment Monitoring & Upgrades:** + Monitor the condition of equipment using diagnostic tools and predictive maintenance techniques. + Suggest and implement upgrades or improvements to mechanical systems to enhance performance and extend equipment life. + **Documentation & Reporting:** + Maintain accurate maintenance records, including inspection reports, maintenance logs, and equipment performance documentation. + Assist with the preparation of reports on the status of machinery, maintenance activities, and any required spare parts. **Qualifications:** + **Experience:** + Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial setting, preferably in the paper industry or similar heavy manufacturing environments. + Strong experience in troubleshooting and maintaining complex mechanical systems, including rotating equipment, pumps, conveyors, and press systems. + **Technical Skills:** + Proficient in mechanical repair techniques, including welding, machining, and fabrication. + Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pumps, bearings, gearboxes, and compressors. + Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints. + Familiarity with paper production machinery, including paper machines, calenders, dryers, and conveyors, is highly preferred. + **Certifications (preferred, not required):** + Mechanical Maintenance Certification (e.g., SMRP, CMRP) + Welding, PLC, or other technical certifications are a plus. + **Education:** + High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical degree or trade certification in mechanical maintenance or a related field is preferred. + **Physical Requirements:** + Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and working in confined spaces or at heights. + Ability to work in hot, noisy, and dusty industrial environments. + **Soft Skills:** + Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to think critically in high-pressure situations. + Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, engineers, and production staff. + Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
