Nexstar Media Inc. has an opening for an MMJ who is an innovative and dynamic journalist for WPHL-TV! 

The MMJ will work with assignment editors, producers and news leadership to report on breaking news, enterprise stories, and highly promotable news content.

Candidate must have a proven track record of strong storytelling skills, source-building, enterprise reporting, digging, and handling breaking news. Excellent time management skills are a must.

The MMJ produces, reports, writes, voices, and is capable of editing and feeding news production content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers.

Reports news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of eventsArranges interviews with people who can provide information about storiesReviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelinesReviews and evaluates notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and detailsDetermines a story’s emphasis, length, and format, and organizes material accordinglyResearches and analyzes background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate informationGathers information about events through research, interviews, experience, or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functionsPitches stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local communityReceives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideasChecks reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant factsAbility to perform live shotsHas the ability to function as an MMJ, five days a weekMakes meaningful and frequent (daily) contributions to the station’s digital platformsRevises work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirementsShoots and edits news events and news reportsProduces and presents reports for all platformsEnsures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production qualityWrites stories for the web and other digital platformsInteracts with viewers/users on social media sitesPerforms special projects and other duties as assignedWillingness to work nonconventional hours including early mornings, evenings and weekendsMust be able to work independentlyMust know when to engage with management for additional support and fact checking on more detailed stories

Requirements & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experienceFluency in EnglishExcellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when requiredMinimum two years’ experience in news reportingSuperior on-air presenceProficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipmentAbility to edit on non-linear platformsAbility to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyAbility to shoot broadcast-quality video, edit and feed content back to the stationValid driver’s license with a good driving recordFlexibility to work any shift, but hours are likely to be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., on most days
