Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to the following, under the direction of the group leader and with general supervision, perform assembly, soldering and testing operations on various mechanical and electronic assemblies in a production or engineering prototype environment.

 

Work from blueprints, assembly drawings, schematics, wire lists, written process descriptions, visual process descriptions, mil specs and verbal instructions.  Perform general assembly tasks which may include coil winding, assembly mechanism timing or shimming, IPC J-STD-001 soldering, wave head soldering, induction soldering, hot air soldering, use of SMT equipment, bench testing and associated assembly adjustments, explosive lead installation and fabrication of rigid and semi-rigid cable assemblies. Set up and operate standard production equipment including ultrasonic cleaners, BTU ovens, potting and extrusion equipment, welders, leak detectors, thermal cycling chambers, mechanically fixtured testers, and multimeters. 

 

Use varied production test equipment to perform standard production or prototype testing, including bench testing, in-process subassembly testing and final acceptance test procedures (ATP) testing. Additional tasks may include use of laser, TIG or EB welders, automated or semi-automated pin insertion equipment and specialized extrusion equipment.

 

Document and record results of completed assembly and testing operations and repair products. Assess the level of repair and assist in the determination of the cause of hardware, system or equipment failures. Take appropriate action to repair or rework production hardware or components and to ensure proper operation of standard production equipment. Report unusual circumstances to supervision as required.

 

Attain and maintain electro-static discharge certification, explosive handling certification (including lead installation) and soldering certification, (including general, wire, printed wire board, wave, critical head soldering and test and welding certification as required by program or process. Remain flexible and willing to work in various work cells depending upon company need. Support company initiatives including ISO 9000 and statistical process control (SPC) ensuring continuous improvement of policies, procedures and product. 

 

Attain security clearance as required. Use of computers and associated software such as word-processing and spreadsheets. 

Qualifications

High School or Equivalent and 3-5 years in manufacturing environment
