Multi-site Safety Manager

The Opportunity

 

Smurfit Westrock Distribution is seeking a talented Multi-Site Safety Manager (MSSM) that will have responsibility for providing high level safety support and leadership to a group of 10-15 packaging/distribution locations in the United States and Canada. This position will report to the Distribution Group Safety Leader and be a member of the safety team supporting the Distribution Group business segment. 

 

The MSSM provides safety support, coaching, technical expertise, and strategic guidance to all assigned sites. The MSSM must be competent in safety and recordkeeping regulations and have experience in driving safety culture and performance improvement for a site(s).  We are seeking a proven safety leader to help assigned sites implement the company’s “Safety For Life” approach. This position will have no direct reports.

 

How you will impact Victory Packaging, a Smurfit Westrock Company:      

Provide region and site operations leaders and site safety associates support for reducing injuries and improving safety performance and culture.Coaching and influencing leadership and team members to affect change in health and safety.Work with site leaders to implement and maintain a sustainable HS management system to effectively reduce injuries, drive team member engagement, and provide a safe and healthy work environment.Championing corporate and business unit level initiatives across locations.Assisting sites with implementing Smurfit Westrock’s “Safety For Life” approach and processes.Assist sites in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements as well as company/group policies and standards.Providing routine safety performance updates to group leaders on assigned site performance.Coaching local leaders on risk analysis, event learning/investigation procedures, best practices, and executing effective action items to improve safety.Assisting Smurfit Westrock Distribution operations in incorporating the Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and HOP related strategy items.Implementing industry standard metrics systems at all sites including Incident Rate, Severity Rate, proactive metric tracking including management system assessments, analyzing root cause and driving corrective actions in partnership with operations leadership. Routinely visit facilities to provide safety support, compliance assistance, and assess compliance with company policies and applicable safety regulations.Assist the business unit to ensure the safety start-up of new sites and shut down of closing sites.Assist sites in completing capital safety reviews for new product and process development, facility modification, product manufacturing modifications and new equipment/machinery installations.Support sites by leading responses to third party requests for information, and correspondence with regulators.

What you need to succeed:

Technical or Associate’s Degree in safety or related field preferred.  Minimum 2+ years' experience leading health and safety at a site(s).  Technical knowledge of distribution and warehouse operations is desiredDemonstrated ability in sharing and implementing best practices across multiple sites. Prior experience in the utilization of a Health & Safety Management System.Interpersonal skills to advocate safety and influence others on safety throughout assigned locations.Effective verbal and written communication skillsKnowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk reduction techniques, including machine guarding, ergonomics, and occupational health and wellnessGeneral knowledge and understanding of safety regulations affecting assigned sitesExperience working with H/S software systems as an aligned approach to safety data managementAbility to travel 20% to 35% of the time
