Job Summary

\n

The Multi-modality Sonographer performs basic to advanced ultrasound services. These may include abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts. This position examines the patient's clinical history to identify the examination's purpose. It frames the clinical questions the examination should answer and expands the examination as needed.

\n

Essential Functions of the Role

\n\nPerform multiple modality ultrasound procedures using various equipment and techniques. Make necessary measurements for accurate, high-quality results.\nIdentifies and defines abnormalities specific to the procedure. Extends the examination scope appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary. Correlates other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilizes appropriate protection measures during procedures.\nMay assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies. This aids in complex procedures to decrease risk factors.\nPrepares patients for procedures and obtains clinical history, including physical findings and lab data. Fits imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors. Explains the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answers questions.\nRecords statistics and performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.\nActs as a resource to other staff, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures and studies to optimize patient care.\nWorks closely with the ultrasound team to ensure quality processes and adherence to protocols. Assists with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.\nImplements protocols as new technology evolves, and ensures implementation and adherence to system standards.\nAssures operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer's recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required.\n\n

Key Success Factors

\n\nMust be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed.\nMust meet all qualifications for any two of these modalities: Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or small parts. Work a minimum of 25% of the time in the second modality. Pediatric and adult scopes are studied as separate specialties by certification.\nKnowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation and techniques.\nKnowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each different specialty.\nKnowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures.\nKnowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.\nAbility to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians and nurses.\nSkilled in the utilization of computers and medical equipment.\n\n

QUALIFICATIONS

\n\nEDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification\nEXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience\n\n

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

\n\nBasic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.\nMust have TWO of the following: Adv Cardiac Sonographer (ACS), ARRT-S Sonography (ARRT-S), ARRT-VI Interventional Rad (ARRT-VI), Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK), Reg Congenital Cardiac Sono (RCCS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Ped. Echocardiography (PE) (RDCS-PE), Reg Diag Med Sono-Abdomen (AB) (RDMS-AB), Reg Diag Med Sono-Breast (BR) (RDMS-BR), RDMS Fetal Echocardiography (RDMS-FE), Reg Diag Med Sono-OB/GYN (OB) (RDMS-OB), RDMS-Pediatric Sonography (PS) (RDMS-PS), Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS), Registered Vascular Tech (RVT):\n
