Multispecialty Sonographer PRN

JOB SUMMARY

The Multispecialty Sonographer performs any combination of basic to advanced ultrasound services and procedures for patients, which may include: abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal and small parts. This position examines the patient’s clinical history to identify the purpose of the examination, frames the clinical questions that the examination is intended to answer and expands the examination as necessary to answer relevant clinical questions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE


Performs multiple specialty ultrasound procedures utilizing a variety of equipment and techniques and makes the necessary measurements required for the interpretation to yield accurate and high-quality results.

Identifies and defines abnormalities specific to the procedure and extends the scope of the examination appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary and correlating other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilizes appropriate protection measures during procedures.

May assist physicians in the procedure rooms and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies to aid in proceeding with complex procedures to decrease risk factors.

Prepares patients for procedures and obtains clinical history from the patient including related physical findings and pertinent laboratory data to adapt the imaging techniques to obtain comprehensive and diagnostic exams to alleviate the probability of erroneous clinical interpretation of the ultrasound. Explains the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answers questions.

Imaging team members are expected to adhere to policies, procedures and workflows. These system workflows include, but are not limited to PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, and BioMed services.

Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.

Acts as a resource to team members, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies to optimize patient care.

Works closely with ultrasound team members to ensure quality processes and adherence to protocols and assists with unit and/or organization accreditation activities as delegated.

Implements protocols as new technology evolves, ensures implementation and adherence to system standards.

Assures operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer’s recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

Must be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed.

Must meet all qualifications and requirements for any two of the following specialties: Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or small parts, and will work a minimum of 25% of the time in the second modality. Pediatric and adult scopes are considered separate specialties by certification.

Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic principles, instrumentation, and techniques.

Knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each different specialty.

Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures.

Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.

Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians, and nurses.

Skilled in the utilization of computers and medical equipment.

Able to serve as trainer by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.

Able to take call, if required.

       Registered Vascular Tech (RVT)

       ARDMS in (AB) or (OB) or RVT (ARDMS): Must have 2 years of related Multispecialty Experience and

Must have TWO of the following in separate specialties:

ARDMS – RDMS: AB, BR, OB/GYN, PS
ARDMS – RDCS: AE, FE, PE
ARDMS – RVT
ARDSM – RMSKS
ARRT – S, VS, BS.

       Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
