This position reports to the Director of Education and Academic Affairs and supervises the full-time Museum Educator for Docents/Families/Schools.  

Purpose

To activate the Blanton Museum of Art’s collections and exhibitions on behalf of school audiences by providing curricular resources and professional development opportunities for teachers; training and assessing volunteer gallery teachers; and acting as liaison to regional school districts.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, promote and evaluate programs and museum experiences for PK-12 students and teachers in alignment with strategic planning.

Supervise the Museum Educator for Docents/Families/Schools.

Provide professional development opportunities for teachers that encourages them to use works of art in their teaching.

Develop, write and produce interdisciplinary resources and lesson plans for teachers and students featuring works of art in the Blanton collections.

Participate in docent training, helping prepare volunteers to provide developmentally appropriate gallery lessons for school visitors.

Participate in other activities as a member of a dynamic, creative and generous team of museum educators.

Participate as a visible and entrepreneurial Blanton representative in regional schools.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education, art history or a related field.

Four years of experience teaching in museum settings and/or classroom.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.

High degree of proficiency in databases and computer applications including Excel, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word.

Goal and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and high standards for excellence and accountability.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a creative and ambitious team.

Proactive and motivated self-starter with integrity, drive and ability to prioritize and produce in a fast-paced service-oriented environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in education, art history or a related field.

Five years of full-time teaching experience in classroom or museum setting.

Spanish language fluency

Salary Range

$60,000

Working Conditions
