Museum History Associate
Job Title: Museum History Associate Location: DC Metro area Clearance: Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Museum History Associate to join our team. Under the direction of the Public Historian, the Museum History Associate will perform original historical research, contribute to exhibit development, and support educational initiatives. This role involves researching primary sources, designing tours, and organizing public programs, as well as managing speakers and training volunteers. Key Responsibilities: + Conduct original historical research to support the development of museum exhibits, tours, and programs. + Perform detailed primary source text and image research to inform exhibit content. + Assist in creating educational materials and resources related to museum exhibits. + Design and deliver engaging tours of museum exhibits tailored to various audiences. + Plan and coordinate topics for panel discussions and other public programs. + Recruit and manage speakers for panels and public programs, ensuring high-quality presentations. + Assist in training and mentoring volunteers to conduct effective and informative exhibit tours. + Collaborate with the Public Historian and other team members to enhance the museum's educational and outreach efforts. Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree in education, Public History, Museum Studies, or a related field. + 2-3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a museum or historical setting. + Experience working with secondary and college students is preferred. + Proven experience in organizing events and programs for the general public. + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Excellent organizational and time management skills. + Ability to work independently as a self-starter while also being an effective team player. + Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to meeting deadlines. + Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications: + Master’s degree in education, Public History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
