Conducts guided tours through the museum and outside on the grounds, interprets the significance of local, state, regional and national history in relation to the building, the museum artifact collection, and the museum’s exhibits. Assists Education staff with conducting on-site museum programs and the occasional outreach program. Undergoes periodic training to ensure that visitors receive the most accurate info about the museum and its exhibits. Greets and registers museum visitors and answers the telephone when needed. Attends and participates in special events or educational programming during regular museum hours and after-hour events that require staff support, such as 2nd Friday Art Night, the Big Boo!seum Bash, Holiday Open House, and other museum programs. Assists in over-all agency projects that require general staff support. Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: The formal education equivalent of high school diploma; plus two years of experience in cultural arts, education, anthropology or related field. Preferred qualifications: Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in museum studies or related with a working knowledge of the 19th-20th century Arkansas history is helpful. Position Information Class Code: P056C Grade: GS03 FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT Salary Range: $32,405.00 - $51,686.00 Summary The Museum Program Assistant II is responsible for assisting in museum program development, operation, and coordination activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Functions Prepares written information concerning scheduled museum events and disseminates material and brochures to inform teachers of museum educational programs for students. Assists in the production of program publications, including press releases and other publicity materials, by contacting individuals to write or assist with writing of articles, and assists in the development of program aids and props. Assists with the coordination and promotion of special events of the agency and maintains contact between visitors and agency personnel for upcoming events/visits. Coordinates activities of volunteers by planning, assigning, and reviewing work, contacts and corresponds with volunteers to provide information concerning agency programs and needs, and secures their assistance for special events and fund-raising activities. Recruits new members and donors by contacting individuals through email and phone calls, provides program membership information, and maintains contact with current members. Researches agency collections and historical events for curatorial and exhibit staff and maintains research files, slides, and research and resource libraries. Schedules and conducts guided tours of historic buildings/sites and organizes and oversees activities during special events. Performs other duties as assigned. Ability to prepare and provide written and oral information. Ability to secure funding for museum programs and services. Minimum Qualifications The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in history, education, anthropology, or a related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
