JOB SUMMARY

The Music Therapist offers clinical evidence-based music therapy interventions including assessment, treatment, and ongoing evaluation for patients and their families designed to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and psychosocial needs.

\n

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

\n\nDirects music therapy sessions to improve patient’s mental health and physical well-being.\nServes patients, families and caregivers by assessing their emotional and physical state and offering appropriate musical interventions.\nProvides therapeutic music at the bedside and in outpatient areas.\nResponds to referrals in a timely manner, setting appropriate priorities regarding referrals.\nConfers with members of the treatment team to plan and evaluate patient goals and desired outcomes.\nServes as a resource for the creation of an aesthetic and artistic environment for patients, families, visitors and staff throughout Baylor Scott & White Healthcare System.\nCreates and sustains an attentive, helpful, safe and therapeutic environment for patients, families and staff.\nMentors Music Therapy practicum students and interns.\n\n

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

\n\nExperience providing music interventions in a healthcare setting is required.\nSkilled musician.\nAbility to deal with complex situations and resolve patient and/or customer service concerns.\nAbility to give clear, concise and complete education and/or instructions.\nWorks well in a patient centered environment as an integral team player.\nAbility to adjust communication style to suit different audiences.\nCaring listener, delicate, upbeat, optimistic, articulate, gracious and tactful.\nAbility to calm upset patients in a composed and professional demeanor.\nMasters Degree preferred\n\n
