Department Summary:
The N114 Resilient Warfighter Space Services Department is committed to ensuring resilient space-based capabilities to enable successful joint warfighting across all domains. We achieve mission success by leveraging our operational understanding, technical expertise, comprehensive view of the technology landscape, and cross-enterprise connectivity. Our team conducts cutting-edge technical research and prototype development, providing senior government leaders with data-driven insights to advance space-based capabilities. Our diverse portfolio spans multiple missions, with a focus on resilient Satellite Communications (SatCom) and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT). As a major contributor to the Space Warfighting Division, the N114 department enables resilient space-based solutions that enhance the effectiveness of joint warfighters in and across all domains.
The N114 department is seeking a group leader in Colorado Springs, CO, and other MITRE locations, to lead personnel in the Space Systems Sustainment Group, who largely support Space Systems Command PNT programs. While responsible for staff development and management, the successful candidate will also work with the Department and Division leadership team to cultivate excellence and facilitate the Air and Space Force Center's strategy to enhance diversity and inclusion. This additional management duty is expected to be approximately 10 percent of the role. Therefore, it is expected that the successful candidate will spend most of their time on technical contributions to direct or other indirect projects they currently work on.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Staff Management - Provide leadership and day-to-day management for personnel (6 - 10 individuals with varying experience levels), as well as communicating regularly with group members to ensure well-being, engagement, and promote job satisfaction.Career Development – Create a positive atmosphere to enable engaging in regular developmental conversations for group members to develop realistic goals that capitalize on their strengths and interests and advocate for staff by identifying opportunities for career experiences and professional developmental.Cohering the Team - Match projects with staff competencies and identify stretch assignments for staff to develop new skills. Support development of staff transition plans and facilitate staff transitions between projects to meet the needs of projects and group membersPerformance Management – Engage in regular discussions with work leads (e.g., project or task lead) about expectations, performance, and growth opportunities; participate in annual performance management activities. Complete performance management reviews thoroughly, accurately, and on schedule.Culture Development – Foster and demonstrate a strong and positive culture built upon MITRE’s cultural attributes of speed, risk-taking, adaptability, collaboration, grace and respect, while maintaining an inclusive working environment for allHiring Leadership - Participate in department's staffing activities, including identification, recruitment, development, and retention of the personnel required to realize the department's mission, vision, strategy, goals, and objectives.Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Active DoD Top Secret Clearance (TS) with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.Demonstrated technical depth in the field of systems engineering in one or more of the following mission areas: satellite communications, space data transport, space command and control, and PNT.Experience in GPS program of records and familiarity with Control, Space, and User EquipmentBroad knowledge of the division/department’s work with the ability to make connections across work programs and across the corporation.Demonstrated leadership and desire to work with and to mentor staff and to serve in a management role.This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-sitePreferred Qualifications:
