National Accounts Manager

Role description: 

The National Account Manager is responsible for executing the segment commercial business plan which includes coordinating sales activities with customer accounts and prospects. This position manages purchases and communication between plant locations and customer facilities, which may include utilizing sales and technical services. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Develop and implement a sales strategy for increasing sales and profits through assigned customer accounts 

Participating in contract negotiations 

Develop new customers and establish customer relations with current customers to generate new business 

Maintain ongoing contact with accounts and prospects by developing and coordinating sales presentations, managing forecasts, and ensuring proper sales service support is provided to customers 

Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of responsibilities 

Maintain timely communication of customer problems or potential problems to sales management and ensure corrective action is developed and taken 

Monitor inventory turnover per planned goals and develop action plans 

Assist the credit and collection department as necessary in their collection efforts 

Work with Sales Vice President, Director, and Marketing group to study and develop sales and marketing strategies to support sales growth 

Recommend new or modified products to meet account customer needs 

Prepare customer market analysis to identify and propose new or modified product packaging designs and concepts to meet market needs 

Comply with environmental and food safety standards as set forth in plant policies and programs within the departmental responsibilities 

 

Minimum skills / qualifications:  

High school diploma or equivalent 

Previous outside sales experience 

Effective planning and organization skills 

Ability to analyze data 

Ability to identify problems, reason, and then make and carry out recommendations 

Effective verbal and written communication skills  

Ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization 

Proven negotiation skills 

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Applications 

Ability to travel up to 75% 

 

Preferred skills / qualifications:  

Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, engineering, or a related field  

Previous sales experience in the packaging industry
