What is the National Sales Manager, Retirement responsible for?

The role of the National Sales Manager, Retirement, is to oversee and develop the team of retirement sales professionals across the U.S. by applying expert/seasoned knowledge of the financial services industry and Franklin Templeton’s (FT’s) retirement products, solutions, and competitors.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a National Sales Manager, Retirement?

Leadership

Demonstrated ability to hire, retain, motivate and hold sales talent accountable

Provide experience in coaching sales team to build business and connect with advisors

Team oriented competitive drive

Develop strong following with team and with internal partners to support sales process and drive growth

Advocates the importance of intellectual curiosity and spirit of reinvention across the organization.

Introduces new perspectives and information to the team in order to stimulate innovation and change.

Sales Strategy

Leverages data to ensure each salesperson is tracking to quantitative goals and qualitative business planning goals that align to discretionary compensation.

Able to effectively manage multiple sales initiatives across investment teams and vehicles. 

Knowledge of and ability to use tools, techniques and processes for exploring and developing potential areas of business growth for the organization.

Establishes, maintains and leverages COI/home office relationships to position sales team to drive growth

Secures commitment for decisions by communicating clearly and credibly to stakeholders

Creates sales alignment for external sales team across the organization, including product, marketing, data, technology operations, US Wealth Management, Key Accounts, Consultant Relations, Training and Investment teams.

Collaboration with internal partners and Specialized Investment Managers (SIMs)

Stays abreast of industry trends

Business Development

Outstanding aggregate sales results (gross, net and discretionary measures)

What ideal qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful? 

Bachelor's degree in business, or a related field.

12+ years of experience in asset management sales or a related field.

Proven track record of success in sales and leadership, including strong relationships across key centers of influence and industry leaders.

Strong communication and presentation skills.

Strong understanding of the DC retirement industry, including plan design and qualified investment options.

Familiarity with services, industry trends and asset management products including mutual funds, CITs, Separate Accounts, Target Date Funds, Alternatives, Stable Value Products.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.

Strong organizational and project management skills.

Willingness to travel regularly to support sales teams and strengthen relationships with top clients across country.

Series 7, 63 FINRA Licenses required.  Series 24 FINRA license required (or willingness to obtain shortly after hire).

CFA, CIMA or CFP a plus

Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. We expect the salary for this position to be within $175,000 – $200,000 USD.
