We have an immediate opening for a Naval Auxiliaries and Pollution Abatement Systems Mechanical Technician to support our Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) Code 251 customer in Norfolk, VA. Essential Responsibilities: + Provide technical assistance, assessments, inspection, troubleshooting, corrective actions, adjustments/repairs, and grooms on Naval Auxiliaries and Pollution Abatement Mechanical systems + Provide support for shipboard Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) assessment and evaluation tasks including, Total Ship Readiness Assessments (TSRA), Combat Systems Command Control Communications and Computer Readiness assessment (C5RA), Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) programs, and Fleet Tech Assist (FTA) events + Observe and/or conduct cold and hot checks of equipment, note condition and parameters for any out-of-specification readings or settings + Observe the operation of the equipment by the ship's force to witness the full range of performance + Advise equipment/system engineering changes toward improving quality, reliability, installation, maintenance, and repair + Use appropriate measuring/test equipment to obtain data for evaluation + Provide written/oral debriefs to the ship’s Chief Engineer (CHENG) and/or other designated officers and senior enlisted leadership + Attend conferences and meetings + Provide On-The-Job Training to the ship's force during shipboard evolutions + Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, diagrams, and sketches Minimum Requirements: + Five (5) years of experience within the last ten (7) years operating, US Navy Auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to) Fire Pumps, Fuel Pumps, Lube Oil Pumps, Sea Water Pumps, Condensate Pumps, Potable Water Pumps, Main SW Circulating Pumps, Distilling Plants (Evaporators & Reverse Osmosis), Main Drainage Systems, Sewage Systems, Solid Waste Equipment, Oily Water Separators, Condensers/Heat Exchangers, and all associated valves/piping/equipment + Must have an active secret US government clearance. Note: US citizenship is required to maintain a secret clearance + Candidate must be self-motivated, customer-oriented, and possess strong analytic and communication (oral and written) skills Physical Requirements: + Must be able to walk long distances from parking facilities to ships across paved, unpaved, and often unlevel surfaces + Must be able to traverse catwalks, steep stairs, and vertical ladders through watertight hatches, doors, and scuttles + May be required to work in confined spaces such as tanks, voids, and plenums + Must be able to lift and carry a toolbag or backpack weighing up to 35lbs, as part of a normal workday Preferred Qualifications: + Experience as a member of a US Navy Engineering Activity, US Navy Shipboard Engineering Department, or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) + Experience as an instructor or student in applicable US Navy “A”, “C”, and specialized schools Amentum is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
