NEPA Environmental Planner
UES is seeking a NEPA Environmental Planner. The Environmental Planner serves as a project planner with a focus on analysis, documentation, and confirmation of NEPA requirements. The Environmental Planner will work under the supervision of a Principal, or Project Manager, and receive direction from an assigned supervisor or manager at UES. The Environmental Planner will need strong analytical and writing skills to fulfill the National Environmental Protect Act (NEPA). The NEPA Environmental Planner is a technical staff position initially under supervision, in a learner capacity.
Salary is negotiable based on experience, education, and certifications/licensesJob Duties:Apply understanding of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements to determine the permitting strategy for projects.Perform research, strategic consultation, and prepare Plans of Operation, Plans of Development, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and other permitting documents.Analyze environmental impacts from project activities, develop written descriptions of impacts, and design recommended mitigation for environmental documents.Contribute to business development activities, including client relations and proposal development for new work.Review and interpret highly technical reports on a variety of subjects (air quality, archaeology, biology, geology, hazardous materials, historic resources, hydrogeology, traffic, etc.) and summarize in non-technical language understandable to a layperson.Coordinate public meetings and other public outreach and engagement tasks, including travel logistics, project newsletters, notices, public announcements, and related materials.Manage and direct field investigations related to Permitting, Planning, Environmental Services.Direct the work of others analyzing the collected environmental data and compile reports, including data assessment and evaluation of original textPrepare, analyze, and review technical documents and provide opinions and guidance to clients on various regulatory processesSuccessful participation in team-based project work that meets client expectations and provides for on-time completion of high-quality technical work products.Actively participate and management of business development activities including client development and management, proposal preparation, and presentationsWork collaboratively and professionally with a team in a fast-paced and creative environment. Provide mentorship and guidance to UES’ Engineering Interns, environmental scientists, and other technical staff.  Provide project coordination, project budget tracking, and other routine tasks associated with project management for environmental-related projects.  Interface with clients and regulatory agencies professionally towards accomplishing project objectives while complying with associated laws, regulations, and agency policies. Prioritize tasks and work autonomously in both an office and field setting. Any other duties assigned by Supervisor Required Qualifications:Communication skills for purposes of data gathering.Techniques and methods of evaluation of environmental impacts.Knowledge of State, local and regional government organizations as they relate to environmental planning.Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, or Environmental Design and knowledge of environmental, urban, and regional planning.Solid grasp of the key impact assessment and management issues as well as a high degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices.Bachelor’s degree in planning, geography, archaeology, anthropology, economics, political science, social sciences, civil or environmental engineering, geology, environmental science, environmental studies, biology, ecology, or a field related to UES’s services is required; master’s degree or higher is preferred.Willingness and ability to travel when needed or required.Must have a valid driver's license.About UES
