National Economic Research Associates, Inc. is seeking candidates for the following position based in Los Angeles, CA (A telecommuting/hybrid work schedule may be permitted within a commutable distance from the worksite, in accordance with company policies):

We will count on you to:

Apply technical skills and knowledge to conduct high-powered economic research and analysis of background documents and data regarding antitrust and competition cases, across a wide variety of industries, with emphasis on healthcare. Apply knowledge of microeconomics, econometrics, and big data analytics to perform complex economic research and analyze industry and market conditions. Create research questions, project workflows and analytical approaches required to advise clients on relevant matters. Develop economic and financial models to answer critical business questions, explain competitive dynamics of the market, and impact of potential transactions on market competition and efficiency, which requires performing extensive quantitative analyses to test model hypotheses. Assist senior colleagues and contribute to writing expert reports. Write research reports and client presentations for senior staff and clients to help them make informed economic decisions. Contribute to project strategy, oral and written testimony preparation and client relationship management. Deliver and help design training programs for new hires to get them familiar with the team’s goals, typical project work and economic analysis. This position does not have any dedicated reports but will manage, supervise, and assign tasks to junior staff, review results, provide feedback and support skills development on a project-by-project basis.

What you need to have:

Requires a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent in Economics or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the position offered, as a Senior Analyst, Analyst, Associate Analyst, or a related position. In the alternative, employer would accept a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Economics or a related field plus five (5) years of progressively responsible postbaccalaureate experience in the position offered, as a Senior Analyst, Analyst, Associate Analyst, or a related position. Three (3) years of experience (or 5 years with a Bachelor’s Degree) must include: Exploring, processing and conducting data diagnostics and cleaning on large data utilizing statistical software and programming languages such as SAS, Stata or R; Conducting quantitative, statistical, econometric and comparative analyses to economic and financial data; Building and running economic models to answer critical business questions; Performing economic research in connection with high-profile mergers, acquisitions and litigations to identify and evaluate antitrust risks of the proposed mergers; Performing qualitative research in various industries with an emphasis on healthcare; Utilizing tools including R, MS Excel, and ArcGIS to summarize and visualize key information from large datasets with graphs and charts, and illustrate geographic markets; Application of Antitrust screening tools outlined in the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice’s Merger Guide including Diversions analysis, Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (“HHI”), and Willingness to Pay; Reviewing depositions, financial statements, contracts, and reports related to mergers and acquisitions and litigation cases; Designing and preparing exhibits and tables that support project analyses for non-technical audiences; Documenting and communicating data diagnostics, methodologies, assumptions, and analysis outcomes with senior staff and clients; Managing and leading workstreams on multiple projects ensuring successful completion as per designated deadlines, while mentoring, training, and assigning tasks to junior researchers.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $136,000 - $205,000 per year.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
