NetOps Transport Monitor Intern

The Leidos DIGMOD team has an opportunity for a Transport Monitor intern to work in 1 of 3 great locations. This opportunity will provide the selected candidate with hands on experience working in an enterprise level Network Operations Center and will boost their knowledge of network topologies, port and protocol usage as well as different vendor devices all while providing services to the Navy Warfighter.

This position will be Monday through Friday (0800 to 1700 local time), however there may be occasional temporary assignments to the overnight shifts for familiarization with additional Enterprise Operations such as maintenance actions, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

The Transport Monitor Team is responsible for monitoring events and incidents that affect Network Transport and service health across the Enterprise, documenting outage information including actions taken to respond to incidents and resolve or escalate any outage.The Current Operations Watch team monitors multiple Transport solutions (WLAN, LAN, and WAN) which are critical to the functionality of our users’ ability to perform their mission on a daily basis.Utilize internal systems to report incidents to leadership.Takes escalations of any alerts/events identified as significant and requiring action.Performs initial assessment and triage on the criticality and impact of events and engages the appropriate processes and personnel if escalation outside Current Operations is required.Provides resolutions to Transport events (WAN and LAN) within set processes and facilitates escalation to higher tiers as required.Interact with outside vendors and specialist WAN/LAN teams to resolve network events and incidentsAbility to leverage knowledge of Vendor products used in the environmentExecute network infrastructure changes in response to Engineering requirements, Government Directed Actions (GDA’s), and other authorized change orders under the supervision of senior Engineers.Provides support to Site Operations and other external organizations through the use of problem resolution skills and independent decision making.Maintains timely (5 minutes or less) response to network infrastructure warning, critical and fatal event alert notices. Ensures the Critical Situation Manager is apprised of all details regarding any significant events or incidents.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in a Networking IT program through an accredited college. GPA of 3.0 or greater is required.Must have the ability of obtaining a DoD Secret Level Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship.8570 Compliant and/or on track to completing the certification during the intern program, meeting the IAT II level certification requirementsPerforms well under pressure and ability to calm end usersExcellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior military experience a plus; USMC or USN IT experience preferredExperience working with ITSM framework, networking technologies and data centersExceptional communication abilities, both verbal and written, including long-form business writing on complex topicsAn entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to drive innovation independently; have a passion to improve at every opportunityAbility to define program goals and roadmaps based on customer needs and strategic direction, and ensure that committed projects are delivered on schedule by the relevant team membersAbility to work in a matrix organization with other teams to resolve issues and communicate status effectively to peers, subordinates and program leadershipMotivated self-starter with the ability to create complex technical reports on analytic findings

Skillsets that are expected to be developed and learned throughout the course of their college program and the internship.

Familiarity with ITIL best practices (ITIL Foundations)Knowledgeable on tools used in an Enterprise organization that aids in Event Management; Incident Management and performance Management including experience with SNMP-based network monitoring toolsConducting Network Monitoring in a DOD environment and understanding customer communicationExperience in a data center environmentUnderstanding of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) related to Network OperationsStrong skills with Network WAN and LAN Transport technologies, including MPLS, Routing Protocols, Cisco IOS and IOS XE, VLANs, VoIP, Subnet addressing, and switching protocols.Network hardware configuration and troubleshootingHands-on Experience in working with DoD networks, including NIPR and SIPR

Pay Range:Pay Range $46,800.00 - $84,600.00
