Summary

This position provides leadership, direction and technical support for the Capital Regional District’s Information Technology systems. The incumbent is responsible for providing day-to-day technical and analytical expertise in the support of various systems, servers and equipment operating in a local area and wide area network configuration.

Key Duties & Responsibilities Operates and monitors Local and Wide Area Networks to ensure highest availability to clients. Provides direct customer technical support and complex problem solving. Oversees the status and performance of servers, network devices and computers within data centers. Identifies and resolves problems affecting network performance, client-server systems and peripherals. Evaluates, recommends, installs, builds, implements and maintains physical and virtual servers. Upholds corporate and security policies for all internal and external data and system access. Maintain high levels of availability, currency and service delivery through development and implementation of a comprehensive Patch Management Plan, identifying, acquiring, installing and verifying software and/or firmware updates on a recurring basis. Ensures that patches are installed properly, testing systems after installation, and document all associated procedures, such as specific configurations required. Ensures all identified information system components are the latest patch version, as specified and supported by its vendor. Ensure identity security and privileged account management practices are implemented and followed. Creates and provides account management across numerous environments. Installs new network resources such as file servers, printers, security and networking components. Monitors backup and recovery processes and procedures. Preferences for experience with Veeam and Azure Backup. Regularly scans and reviews assets to identify network, configuration, and application vulnerabilities. Cooperates with other IT divisions to assist remediation of all security anomalies. Reports on key performance metrics of vulnerability management processes. Creates plans and provides guidance to remediate IT security vulnerabilities. Administers and supports Windows Remote Desktop environment. Experience with Microsoft Remote Desktop Servers, gateways, published applications an asset. Develops, tests and deploys advanced scripting to assist with the automation of various monitoring activities, including software roll-outs, and event notifications. Installs and supports a wide range of file storage technologies SAN/NAS, iSCSI and DASD. Plans, installs, deploys and maintains complex Virtual Machine infrastructure. Experience with Azure and Vmware environments required. Provides leadership and mentoring to other IT staff on monitoring and troubleshooting techniques. Maintains and supports the Active Directory Policy Management. Experience managing Microsoft 365 tenant and associated SaaS/PaaS/IaaS products. Manage corporate firewalls and site to sire connectivity. Experience with Palo Alto Next Gen firewalls and Cisco Meraki MX firewalls essential. Drafts policies and procedures and works to implement strategies and standards. Documents system configurations, installations and procedures. Responsible for maintaining inventories and asset documentation. Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD Performs other related duties as required Additional Information NoneKey Skills & Abilities Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills. Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP in relation to large complex routing and switched environments. Advanced knowledge of on-premise Vmware and Azure cloud Virtual Environments. Strong skills in Active Directory Policy Management. Considerable experience working in a large and complex Information Technology department. Thorough understanding of network management principles. Advanced Microsoft Windows Networking operating and diagnostic skills involving Active Directory, authentication methods, script writing and registry expertise. Substantial experience with Microsoft Azure/365 technologies. Advanced troubleshooting and analytical skills. Advanced experiences with switching and routing configurations, with Cisco specific experience being desired. Advanced experience with Palo Alto firewall management and deployments for large multisite, complex environments. Experience supporting Cisco Unified Communications Manager phone systems and accompanying products an asset. Experience supporting Cisco Meraki devices (MX/MR/MG). Experience supporting Linux systems in an enterprise network. Experience in large enterprise network design, with emphasis on availability and performance. Experience in Disaster Recovery planning and design. Experience with modern backup and recovery principals with emphasis on Veeam and Azure backup products. Experience managing data center scale hardware (rack mount servers, data center switching, SAN/NAS storage, fibre channel networking, etc.). Experience managing both Windows and Linux server operating systems. General experience with a wide variety of IT technologies and analytical techniques. Qualifications Degree in a related discipline A minimum of 6 years' directly related experience An equivalent combination of education and experience Certifications MCSE Certification Valid BC Driver's Licence
