Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the administrative direction of the CFO, develops, implements and monitors record management activities to assure review, assembly, abstracting/coding, filing and release of medical record information consistent with policies, procedures and applicable regulatory standards.

 

Registration/Certification/Licensure:

RHIA or RHIT certified.

 

Experience:

Five years of record management experience which included two years in a leadership role and experience with Revenue Cycle Management.

*Bachelors degree may be waived in lieu of a total of 10 years of direct experience and leadership in record management activities.

 

Education:

*Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Medical Record Administration or related field.

 

Job Knowledge & Skills:

Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and third party reimbursement, JCAHO, SBOH, PHICO, and HCFA standards and guidelines, as well as a general understanding of multidisciplinary care planning, nursing practice, procedure, and standards impacting patient care.

Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of all procedures, regulations and legal obligations regarding the storage, retrieval and statistical analysis of patient files, as well as the release of related information; strong working knowledge of medical terminology.

Requires knowledge of statistics, data systems retrieval and manipulation necessary to maintain data and prepare complex reports regarding patient care activities.

Demonstrates knowledge of management theory and practice to effectively lead unit associates.

Demonstrates a high level of analytical and organizational skills in order to monitor unit operating efficiency and assure compliance with hospital policies, procedures and regulatory groups.

Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers, as needed.
