The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing innovative solutions to business issues. Responsible for leading multiple complex and high-priority projects. Works closely with all IT operations groups, and project management teams to scope, estimate, and provide overall technical guidance for assigned solutions/systems. Analyzes existing systems and processes to improve maintenance and system infrastructure. Provides detailed documentation for implemented solutions and necessary knowledge base articles to allow for operational support and lifecycle of network systems. The successful candidate will have strong troubleshooting, organizational and analytical skills with the ability to understand and break down complex problems.
Employee Core Responsibilities:
• Provide guidance and evaluation of technical solutions to ensure technical direction for best-in-class technologies and practices.
• Establishes and maintains network performance for system configurations and connections.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network problems.
• Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.
• Interacts with senior personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
• Responsible for highly complex technical network and security hardware, software involving research and/or design support for the Y12 Site, DOE, vendors and other agencies.
• Supports professional personnel working on other assigned projects as required.
• Performs evaluations to determine the effectiveness of software packages, hardware requirements, and/or security products that may be used in the development of, or provide security for, technical Plant computer systems.
• Identify and work with team of engineers and architects to identify areas for automation and application of DevOps principles.
• Ensures solutions are well engineered, operable, and maintainable
• Works with IT project management organization to deliver solutions on schedule
• Tracks and documents requirements for enterprise development projects
• Monitors current and future trends in technology which will positively affect organizational projects
• Acts as the senior technical resources for organization projects
• Works with enterprise architects and Network Peers to develop solutions which align to organization and mission needs
• Work effectively as part of an architecture team providing technical guidance
• Ability to interact with senior leadership and customers to promote current technologies and solutions

Candidate must have in-depth, demonstrated technical experience in the following areas:
• Telephony - VoIP engineering, implementation and management (Cisco preferred)
• Networking (Cisco preferred)
• Experience with firewall design and implementation (Palo Alto preferred)
• Complex routing and switching design and implementation.
• Experience with SCADA, IoT, and other Operational Technology networking
• Experience with IDS/IPS
• Experience with design and implementation of 802.1x
• Experience with design and implementation of wireless technologies including WIDS/WIPS
Candidate must also have the following
• Progressive experience in technical and security roles
• Understanding of server technologies such as Windows, Unix/Linux, VMWare
• Understanding of Cloud technologies (Amazon/Azure preferred)
• Understanding of ITIL processes and experience implementing ITIL concepts
• Understanding of ServiceNow
• Ability to present technical and operational information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word, solve complex technical problems, and be alert to changes that may affect the security and operational environment of systems.
EXPERIENCE:
• Information Technology experience including at least 5 years of solutions architecture involving firewalls referred. Certification in key proficiencies (Networking, Security, Cloud) desired.
If a range of Career Levels is posted, i.e., Senior Associate to Senior Specialist, internal applicants already in one of the Career Levels would come across at their current Career Level. Internal applicants currently in a lower level Career Level would move to the lowest posted Career Level. Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
