The Network Engineer is accountable for designing, documenting, configuring, managing and aiding network hardware systems which include the WAN, LAN, Wireless, VPN, VLAN and telephony services. They are also accountable for aiding other related equipment including network hardware, data storage systems, operating systems, application environments, and network authentication systems. This position is reliable for protecting the organizations assets from internal and external egresses from threats to ensure the highest level of availability of network security, and network resources for credit union operations. Major Duties and Responsibilities

Accountable for network security by implementing strategies to mitigate risk to the network from internal and external exposures, by following policies, standards, and best practices, by monitoring system and logs, by logging issues, by following up on suspicious activity, and by staying up to date on current network security trends.Accountable for the design, backing, maintenance, and security of network systems for WAN, LAN, Telephone, Wireless, VPN, Remote Access, ATM communications, VMWare, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory and data storage environments to ensure effective operations. Aid IT Implementations and IT Support teams by providing network infrastructure project management and Infrastructure support expertise. Evaluate solutions for technical feasibility in the network environment. Prepare environments for system installations. Maintain the integrity of network data by using network protection strategies including backups, anti-virus/malware systems, security controls, and encryption techniques to protect credit union assets. Stay up-to-date on IT infrastructure tools and trends to provide recommendations for operational improvements.Create and maintain network diagrams, documentation, and detailed network information for efficient reference, easy planning and fast troubleshooting of network issues. Draft IT network related policies and procedures and develop network standards based on industry best practices. Complete forms and documentations that bolster the policies and procedures for compliance, security, and maintenance of IT infrastructure. Provide the necessary documentation for the IT Implementation and IT Support teams to ensure efficient department operations. Act as technical mentor on IP network issues for IT Infrastructure incidents, BCP, and IT Security Incident Response.Liable for the installation, configuration, product upgrades and ongoing aid of networking equipment including network routers, switches, VMWare communications, and other network infrastructure systems.Provide network technical aid and troubleshooting skills to ensure a stable and reliable network. Diagnose, resolve, and report network incidences and reported discrepancies discovered through current processes and procedures.Assumes accountability for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with vendors, fellow employees, and management for network statuses, project statuses and resolutions.Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Additionally, all employees must follow policies and procedures to minimize risk by exercising judgment, raising questions to management, and adhering to policy guidelines. Requirements

Experience

8 years of relevant experience and an Associate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or equivalent experience preferred.


Education/Certifications/Licenses

4 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or equivalent experience preferred.

CCNA certification is required and a CCNP certification is preferred.

Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA or other relevant technical certifications are highly desirable.


Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.


Other Skills

 Must have the ability to analyze and understand how the various IT equipment and software programs interrelate and interface, and the ability to identify and solve equipment and software problems. A high level of interpersonal and verbal communication skills necessary to relate to other people at their systems knowledge level. Ability to organize and prioritize work without direction from supervisor in situations where dramatic changes frequently occur. Required to operate with great latitude with independent judgment and initiative. Ability to manage multiple projects and support multiple support requests. Must have the ability to effectively interact and direct the efforts of various IT vendors and suppliers. Requires the ability to analyze complex situations and problems and do the necessary research using multiple sources of information to arrive at innovative solutions. Requires occasional after hours work to maintain and repair system components with and without short notice.

Physical Requirements

Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.


Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.


Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics.
