Network Engineer-Layer 1 Onsite-Davenport, IA Technical Skill + Cisco + Deployment + Configuration + Installation + Router + Firewall + Switches + LAN + Troubleshooting Description Our client is seeking a skilled Mid-Level, Layer 1 Network Engineer to join a project in Davenport, Iowa. The position involves the deployment and configuration of Cisco network equipment, including Cisco Call Manager and phone systems. The engineer works closely with the field support team to ensure seamless integration of devices into the network, as well as manage day-to-day network and phone support. Responsibilities + Equipment Installation: Physically install Cisco network equipment such as routers, switches, and firewalls in the network racks. + Rack Organization: Ensure proper organization and labeling of equipment within the racks for easy identification and maintenance. + Cable Management: Implement effective cable management practices to keep the technical rooms tidy and reduce the risk of cable damage or interference. + Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to the physical layer, such as faulty cables, connectors, or hardware. + Connectivity Testing: Use tools like cable testers and network analyzers to verify connectivity and signal integrity. + Environmental Monitoring: Ensure that technical rooms are properly cooled and ventilated to maintain optimal operating conditions for network equipment. + Coordination with IT Teams: Work closely with other IT teams to ensure that physical layer tasks align with overall network migration plans. + Documentation: Keep detailed records of all physical installations, changes, and troubleshooting activities for future reference. + Layer 1 Experience: Proficiency in cable installation and termination, knowledge of network hardware and infrastructure. + Install, terminate, and troubleshoot copper and fiber optic cables. Additional + Non-Technical: Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. + Technical: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. + Strong knowledge of network hardware and infrastructure. + Cisco networking (Layer 1) experience. + Strong communication and customer service skills, + Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. + Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics. + Thorough understanding of ANSI/BISCI standards and requirements. + Extremely self-motivated with the ability to drive resources toward deadlines and manage ambiguity. + Ability to explain complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
