The Network Engineer II administers and installs telephony servers and applications, network application servers, network routers and switches, data security, wireless networks and disaster recovery protocol activities. This position autonomously develops and/or assists in developing recommendations for new and/or upgraded hardware/software and/or other Engineer resources needed for efficiency, growth and control. This position, in collaboration with the Network Engineer III, takes the lead on monitoring and resolving issues as they arise within the data and telephony network.
Responsibilities Perform day-to-day networking tasks to ensure network reliability, availability, and serviceability with minimal interruption.Install and manage wireless networking infrastructure.Install, maintain, and evaluate network systems and communications.Oversee back-end equipment configurations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.Work directly with system equipment vendors to fix complex problems and perform upgrades.Develop and recommend ideas for maximizing network performance through information review provided by monitoring programs and network administrators.Perform as technical lead for specified projects.In collaboration with Network Engineer III, provide Tier 3 level support for support tickets submitted to the Help Desk.Maintain all systems documentation, statistical and management reports, as necessary.Work directly with the Director of Network Operations, and Kennedy Krieger Institute departments to implement organizational goals that support the organization’s long range plans.Foster and maintain a high level of interdepartmental communication in both the user community and within Information Systems to ensure successful project completion.Pursue and maintain expert-level knowledge in various technologies. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification preferred.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or related field required. Additional years of relevant experience above the minimum requirement may be substitute for the education requirement at the discretion of the Director, Network Operations.
EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least seven (7) years’ experience in computer, security, IP telephony, or network trouble resolution, to include:Hands-on experience implementing Cisco technologies, including Enterprise Routing and Switching, Wireless, and Network Security.Experience in implementation, design, and configuration of TACACS+ security.Experience with routing protocols EIGRP, BGP, OSPF.Experience implementing guest wireless technologies, to include EoIP tunneling and foreign/anchor controller configuration/design.Hands-on experience in the implementation of Avaya technologies including System Manager, Session Manager and Communication Manager and ancillary technologies related to these systems is strongly preferred.Experience with Cisco 9800 series wireless controllers and their implementation in a centrally managed wireless network is preferred.Experience with Cisco ISE implementation and experience in ISE feature implementation in wired, wireless, VPN configurations using device profiling/posturing is desired.
