Position Summary

The Tier 3 Network Engineer is a highly organized, highly technical role focused on maintaining best practices and ensuring a steady state within the network environment. The engineer will establish standards and best practices for network systems, serve as the highest escalation point for network issues, and perform root cause analysis for customer incidents and problem management. The engineer must possess a high technical aptitude, logical problem-solving skills, and be available for escalations during and after business hours. Effective communication with client services and customers is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Proactive Maintenance: Perform proactive work to maintain best practices and ensure a steady state within the network environment.Standards & Best Practices: Establish standards and best practices for network systems.Escalation Point: Serve as the highest escalation point within the support team for network systems.Troubleshooting & Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve reactive incidents, and perform root cause analysis for customer incidents and problem management.Communication: Communicate with client services and customers regarding incidents and changes.Documentation: Maintain exceptional documentation skills for all network-related activities.Mentorship: Mentor and train junior network peers.Availability: Be available for escalations during and after regular business hours.

Basic Qualifications

Experience: 8+ years of network experience with firewalls, load balancers, routers, and switches in both on-prem and cloud environments.Firewalls: Expert in firewall management (preferably Palo Alto, with Fortigate and Cisco ASA experience).Load Balancers: Expert in hardware/virtual load balancer administration (preferably F5 BigIP) and cloud load balancing (AWS, Azure, OCI).Zero Trust: Expertise in Zero Trust environments (preferably ZScaler).Routing & Switching: Proficient in 802.1q, STP, RSTP, MSTP, VLAN, VXLAN, VRF, and BGP, with a preference for experience with Arista and Cisco.VPNs: Skilled in IPSEC VPN tunnels.Packet Analysis: Expert in TCP/IP packet analysis using Wireshark or tcpdump.Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical skills, with logical problem-solving from Layer 1 through Layer 7 of the OSI model.Troubleshooting: Strong understanding of troubleshooting techniques.Network Design: Ability to create and follow network architecture principles using current industry best practices.Organization: Mature organization and time management skills.High Availability: Experience in high availability environments with 99.99% SLA.Customer Focus: Strong sense of urgency in supporting customers and understanding business requirements.Policies & Procedures: Ability to follow ticket handling policies and procedures.Business Impact: Understanding of overall business functions and the impact of technical decisions.Planning: Exceptional planning skills and ability to work within change control parameters.Communication: Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Documentation: Exceptional documentation skills.Independence: Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.Pressure Handling: Ability to work well under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: IT-related college degree, training, or certifications.Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Level 2 – 3 technical support, engineering, or analytical roles.Data Analysis: Proficiency in cleaning and preparing data for analysis to ensure accuracy and reliability.Pattern Recognition: Ability to identify patterns, trends, and insights from data to solve complex problems.Critical Evaluation: Evaluating data critically to make informed decisions and recommendations.Technical Documentation: Ability to write complex technical documentation in standalone (Word/PDF) and digital format for internal department use as well as organizational notifications.Leadership: Experience leading small teams of engineers and analysts.SDLC: Understanding and experience in using a Software Development Life Cycle process (Waterfall and/or Agile).
