Network Technician, Senior

Job Title: Network Technician, Senior

Job Summary:

Responsible for overseeing the purchase, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN/WAN systems. This role involves evaluating current systems, solving complex problems requiring in-depth analysis, and planning large-scale projects through vendor comparison and cost studies. Provide work leadership and training to intermediate and junior network technicians.

Performance Expectations

 

Implement and manage security measures to protect the network from cyber threats and unauthorized access. Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for network issues, ensuring minimal downtime. Monitor network performance and optimize it for efficiency and reliability. Maintain documentation of network configurations, changes, and procedures. Plan and execute network upgrades and maintenance tasks to ensure the network remains up-to-date and functional. Collaborate with vendors to procure network equipment and services, ensuring they meet organizational standards Ensure the network complies with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Train and mentor network technicians, providing guidance and support. Lead network-related projects, from planning to execution, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget Respond to Service Incidents as assigned within required SLA’s  On-Call availability is required.

 

Credentials

 

Diploma/degree from a recognized college/university or equivalent experience is required. A current senior network certification is required

 

 Desired Characteristics

 

ITIL and COBIT knowledge is preferred Requires expert knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, networks and applications. 5 - 7 years technical experience supporting the following is required: Network hardware and software – switches, routers; preferably Extreme Networks Wireless networking experience; preferably Extreme or Aruba · Network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, HTTP, VoIP, SIP, H323, SSH, multicast vs unicast, etc. Global networks, using various methods such as internet VPN, MPLS, VPLS, SD-WAN, etc. Advanced level NG Firewall experience managing large scale Fortinet SD-WAN solutions Management systems Such as SolarWinds, Extreme XMC, other vendor specific management systems Experience with network automation and scripting for configuration and backup Microsoft Windows Server operating system Microsoft Desktop Operating Systems Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory Telephony (Legacy and IP); preferably Avaya, AudioCodes SBC’s Experience working in an IT department with ITIL processes in a helpdesk system Experience with OT/manufacturing/shopfloor systems is beneficial
