Candidate will need to be qualified in installing, testing and certifying structured cabling in a data center environment.

Introduction:

Black Box Network Services, the global leader in communication system integration, is looking for a Network Infrastructure Technician with a proven track record in:

Working in a structured cabling environment. Installing single and multi-mode optical cabling. Inspecting and cleaning installed optical cabling. Installing copper cable to IEEE and BICSI cabling standards. Testing installed cables using a Fluke Versiv Mainframe. Decommissioning obsolete networking infrastructure. Working with elevated and underfloor cabling trays. Performing physical (rack and stack) installations of networking equipment.

This position will support facilities management, site security and project engagement with a commitment and desire to satisfy our customer by completing all work at the highest level, always striving for perfection. The candidate must be motivated and self-driven for success.

 

Position Details: 

Hourly position based upon experience & skill level Workdays and hours will be Monday - Friday from 3pm to midnight.  However, shifts may vary or change to cover changes in site status Location:  Customer site - Richmond, VA 23228 Client Addendum will need to be followed.  Copy will be provided at the time of candidates offer.

 

Other Responsibilities Include:

The patching cabling between network equipment and customer’s network The installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet The installation, troubleshooting and de-installing network equipment Install/swap out cables, switches routers and etc. Complete all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels Provide infrastructure cabling break-fix services for network infrastructure Support carrier testing of circuits Assist with facilities efforts Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral Water problems, Emergency cooling restoration, Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events Support inventory management activities Receiving inventory Tagging of assets Tracking spares (crash kits) Ordering inventory Updating inventory records Prepare and return damaged equipment Act as an interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project / operations / MAC management  

Requirements:

Requires appropriate equipment training with high-speed fiber optic transport The ability to clean high speed single and multi-mode optical connections The ability to measure, transmit and receive on high-speed optics The knowledge and experience to work safely with high-speed single mode long range optical lasers Requires experience in working in a data centers and communications closets Must be able to perform rack and stack activities Must be able to safely lift heavy objects Must understand cable patching processes and procedures Must be willing to work shift work which includes nights and weekends. Previous Experience Working in a data center highly preferred

Experience and Education:

Must an in-depth knowledge of structured cabling

Physical Requirements:

Vision: Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Near Acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Peripheral: Ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point. Depth Perception: Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Ability to adjust focus: Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus. Color Vision: Ability to identify colors. Speaking/Hearing: Possesses the ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening skills. Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to stand; and walk. The incumbent is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
