Network Technician I
Overview Provides technical support to Cherokee Nation departments by installing and maintaining hardware, software, and peripherals. Troubleshoots and repairs reported network problems. Qualifications EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Associate’s degree from two-year college or technical school; or two years (60 credit hours) coursework from four-year college or university; or three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS At least one year experience in a related field. COMPUTER SKILLS Must have the product knowledge and technical skills to install network components and operating systems. Needs an understanding of network standards, such as TCP/IP network, and be able to configure networks for fast, secure, reliable operation. Possess knowledge of network security in order to prevent threats that could disrupt operations or expose Cherokee Nation to loss of confidential data. Keeps product knowledge and technical skills up to date in order to take advantage of the latest network technologies. Possess excellent diagnostic skills in order to troubleshot network issues quickly by identifying the sources of problems, which could be due to hardware, software or network faults. Analyzes network traffic flows to identify potential bottlenecks and improve levels of service to users. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Cisco certified service technician (C.C.S.T), Network + and Cisco Certified Network Professional (C.C.N.P) certification preferred. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Possess analytical and problem-solving skills to assess network performance and recommend changes. Utilizes interpersonal skills to communicate with network users and other information systems professionals. Applies project management skills to ensure that new installations or network upgrades do not disrupt normal work. Must have basic knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
