Neurodiagnostic Tech II
Atlantic Health System, is seeking a Full-Time Neurodiagnostic Tech II for the Electroneurodiagnostics Department at Morristown Medical Center. Required hours vary (12 and a half hour shifts), including rotating weekends. Essential Function/Responsibilities: + Obtains relevant patient history and use information to guide testing performance. Explains procedure to the patient. Demonstrates respect for the patient and family. Follows all patient safety guidelines and ensures a safe environment. + Demonstrates knowledge and competency of medications and their effects on EEG studies. + Displays competency of using the 10-20 international electrode placement system and head measurement. Precisely applies electrodes. Recognizes and eliminates artifact by troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions. Selects appropriate amplification settings and montages. Obtains quality data, ensuring technical quality regardless of patients age or disability. + Monitors patients during testing. Works under the supervision of physicians who are responsible for the interpretation and clinical correlation of results but who is not normally present during testing. Ability to analyze data during the recording to ensure validity and interpretability. + Performs EEGs (routine, ambulatory, sleep-deprived) within the department as well as the bedside for adults and pediatrics. Able to record EEGs while anticonvulsive medications are administered. + Ability to work independently and make on-line decisions regarding data collection. Ability to adapt methods in obtaining technical studies according to clinical observations and tracings. + Knowledgeable in communicating an emergency and able to care for patient during seizures. + Performs epilepsy monitoring for adults and pediatrics. Responsible for initial set up and on-going timely maintenance of ongoing testing. Monitors skin integrity and reports skin breakdown to nursing. Is skilled in pattern recognition and artifact detection. + Performs Evoked Potential testing (Baer/VEP) and continuous ICU monitoring. + Displays competency in clipping, pruning and data archiving. + Shows competency in Phase II Long term Monitoring. This will include, but not be limited to grid and strip planning and placement, programming of computer for grid and strip monitoring, maintenance, and connection of phase II lead wires with cable interface, dressing changes, functional mapping at bedside, EEG monitoring during WADA procedures, EEG digitization methods. + Assist with MEG procedures, setting up patient’s collection data under supervision of an experienced MEG technologist. + Accurate and timely data collection. Submits all required information for work sheets, data logs, billing sheets included data entered within electronic data bases. Checks work and resolved errors timely. + Equipment maintenance: ensures proper care and handling of all equipment and ensures that preventable damage does not occur. Maintains electrodes, headboxes and other peripheral equipment to protect integrity and ensure long-term viability. + Professionalism: timely and respectful communication with nursing staff, physicians, and colleagues. Promotes self-growth and development. Collaborating as needed to ensure a satisfactory experience to the patient. + Operates under limited guidance and work assignments involve moderately complex to complex situations that may need a good collaborative approach and relationship with colleagues and units. + Performs related duties as required. Qualifications/Requirements: + HS Diploma/GED Required. + Associate’s/bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and related experience (at least 1 year). + To provide a safe environment to our patients, we require that all candidates must be able to read, write and speak English. + Graduate/Certificate from an accredited Neurodiagnostic Program and must have completed a clinical Neurodiagnostic internship. + Must have R. EEG T. (ABRET board registration in EEG) Relevant Experience: + 2+ years of clinical experience preferred. + 2+ years of Electroneurodiagnostic (END) technology experience preferred. + Previous experience working in a hospital setting preferred.
