Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Junior Rail Vehicle Mechanical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Vehicle Mechanical Engineering group in our Boston, MA office.

In this role, the ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must have knowledge of core mechanical engineering concepts.  Some experience working in the rail industry is a bonus. An FE registration is desirable but not required.

 

This position will report to the Director, Vehicle Mechanical
 

As the successful candidate, you will:

Participate in inspections of rail vehicle and infrastructure maintenance activities

Assist in the review design submittals, and the preparation of detailed descriptions of review findings

Participate in technical working sessions to address issues raised by clients

Inspect and review prototype and first article equipment and prepare detailed descriptions of review findings

Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits under the direction of senior staff

Prepare technical briefs, presentations and reports that identify work progress, defects/non-conformances, and areas of concern

Witness electro-mechanical equipment undergoing qualification testing, including shock and vibration, environmental, and functional testing

Assist with the conduct forensic investigation of failed components and equipment and reporting findings under the direction of senior staff

Develop technical specifications for mechanical equipment

Provide engineering support as required

 

Requirements

A recent or soon to be graduate with a Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering

A minimum of 0-2 years of mechanical engineering experience

Basic knowledge of electro-mechanical and structural engineering

Familiarity with mechanical engineering (Kinematics and Dynamics; Materials, Pneumatics, Hydraulics and HVAC)

Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills

Demonstrate strong organizational skills, work well within a team, take direction from other senior staff members, be able to multi-task on a variety of work assignments, and meet deadlines.

Valid driver license (travel to various rail vehicle maintenance facilities is required)

Domestic and international travel may be required.

 

The following skills/experience are a plus:

Experience with Autodesk and AutoCAD software

Basic programming skills

Experience of Finite Element (ANSYS or Equivalent) Software

Perform assignments related to your sector

Assist with preparation of detailed design for projects

Support preparation of drawings from detailed notes and specifications

Coordination with other technicians/engineers on projects

Provide support to Senior Engineers and Designers as and when needed
