PennLive is looking for a summer intern who wants to roll up their sleeves —for 10 weeks — and experience the adrenaline rush of covering news on deadline.
The news reporting internship is open to college students majoring in journalism, communications or a related field, including 2025 graduates.
This internship will be 40-hour-per-week paid position and will offer an opportunity to gain valuable experience covering breaking news, crime, municipal news and other topics. We seek committed, digitally savvy journalists who are able to work at a fast pace and tell stories in compelling ways.
An ideal candidate would have:
+ Some journalism experience either through previous internships or student media
+ Ability to work under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately
+ Demonstrated reporting, writing and organizational skills
+ Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure
+ Experience with using social media to source and promote content would be a plus
+ The ability to work remotely as well as in a newsroom setting in our Mechanicsburg, PA office
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
Day-to-day tasks and projects may include, but are not limited to:
+ Contributing and researching story ideas
+ Fact-checking and copyediting content
+ Writing bylined stories
+ Producing photos and video
+ Interacting on social media platforms with objective commentary, comment moderation and promoting content initiatives
+ Preference given to college juniors and seniors pursuing a degree in Journalism, Digital Media, Communications, or related fields
Pay is $15/hour.
Internship requires ability to travel to assignments and attend events.
