Job Summary

Research Technologist to join our Next-Generation Sequencing team. The candidate will assist with our various NGS services (Complete Plasmid Sequencing, Complete Amplicon Sequencing, CRISPR Amplicon Sequencing, Viral Genome Sequencing and 16S Sequencing) utilizing the Illumina MiSeq platform. The candidate will also assist in the continued development and daily operation of our Oxford Nanopore-based Rapid Plasmid Sequencing service. The Research Technologist reports to the Core Director and the NGS manager and is expected to work very independently. Ability to work in a collaborative and fast-paced team environment, and to interact with researchers using our services is required.


 

Qualifications

May develop modifications of existing assay techniques, experimental protocols, or new proceduresSynthesizes and interprets resultsPrepares written and/or verbal status reportsUses statistical and graphic summariesOrients and trains new Research TechniciansExecutes protocols of non-routine experimentsCreates new protocols for novel applications and assaysDesigns experiments independentlyAssists Investigator with determining the most suitable methodologyPerforms basic design and modification of protocolsPerforms molecular biology-based experimentsMaintains various electronic inventory databasesMakes full use of an electronic project management tool to track and bill tasksPrepares lab reagents, chemicalsOperates lab instruments, equipmentWrites and implements standard operation procedures (SOPs)For specific research services, works as a liaison between core laboratory and customersPerforms independent literature searchesOrganizes and presents findings at lab meetings and/or to clientsMaintains and orders suppliesAssists with organizing materials for publication or presentation

Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Biology or similar field
