NIA Energy Automation Business Manager - Project Management (Kansas City)
**Description** The **Energy Automation Business Manager** will be accountable for providing national leadership, vision, capture strategy, project development, and business oversight for establishing Burns & McDonnell’s position for automation services in the Energy segment. **This role will be the key national leader for financial and growth accountability in this area.** This position will have primary accountability for NIA’s **Energy Automation** business segment, include annual and long-term business plan and conformance to the plan by development and execution teams.The manager will serve as the main external point-of-contact for the segment to the industry and new clients, as well as the segment’s internal business partner to other T&D business lines, NIA offices, project/account managers, engineer-procure-construct (EPC) teams, department managers, other NIA business segments, Construction/Design-Build (CDB), other Global Practices (GPs), and corporate business partners (Human Resources, Marketing, Information Technology, etc.), as applicable.Additionally, this position will work closely with several other leaders across the NIA organization: + NIA Projects Director (Automation & Integration) – accountable for the Automation and Integration Services business areas. _The Energy Automation Business Manager will also work with the responsible Business Managers and Project Directors for adjacent NIA areas._ + NIA Project Execution Director – accountable for project execution, services strategy, and project manager development across the national practice. _The Energy Automation Manger will also work with the responsible Project Managers across the national practice._ + NIA Department and Technical Managers – accountable for staffing, career development, and direct supervision of all design resources and Project Engineers within the NIA for each office. + NIA Project Managers and NIA Account Managers – responsible for the financial performance of projects and client relationship planning and maintenance. + NIA Managing Director – accountable for the overall NIA national practice. **Responsibilities:** National Strategy: **·** **Responsible for the marketing and business strategy for how the Energy Automation business segment operates and franchises across the national practice, including setting the tone for internal leadership, project development and execution strategies, and external positioning in the market.** ·Accountable for the development, performance, and reporting of the long-term strategic business plan for the Energy Automation business segment, including documented annual, 3-year, and 5-year plans for established segments and adapted to market cycle for emerging segments. ·Accountable for and evaluated on the detailed annual financial business plan for the Energy Automation business segment, including sales, profit, and staffing. ·Responsible for the national marketing approach within the Energy Automation business segment. ·Accountable for planning inter-GP and inter-T&D business line engagement and sales, responsible for delta of new sales year-over-year on new or existing clients with the Energy Automation business segment. ·Responsible for the establishment of champions for sub-markets to support as a global Energy Automation business partner to assist with strategic clarity, ownership, and national cohesion of the business and its constituent parts.Here are some representative examples of possible sub-markets necessitating champions: §T&D Substations, Transmission §GFS §T&D Transportation Electrification Business Development: + **Responsible for the national oversight and accountable for the success of net new, must-win, and strategic pursuits within the** **Energy Automation business segment** **.** + Accountable for cohesive identification and pursuit of opportunities in the Energy Automationbusiness segment, responsible for the generation of a national target list of new clients in consultation with all NIA locations. + Accountable for establishing Burns & McDonnell’s market position in the national Energy Automation business segment through strategic planning and business plan development with a focus on continued growth in market share and profitable growth. + Responsible for providing overall oversight and direction for the business development of the Energy Automation business segment markets, including working with the appropriate personnel on the development and administration of the NIA business plan. + Accountable for the development of strong, work-winning relationships with key NIA stakeholders at current and prospective clients. + Responsible for leading the development and diversification of the national market for the Energy Automation business segment. + Responsible for aligning conference attendance and which conferences to attend to elevate the visibility of Burns & McDonnell in the market. + Accountable for the development of Energy Automation business segment work with new clients as well as the expansion of Energy Automation business segment work with existing clients. + Accountable for oversight of the pursuit process including “go/no-go” decisions, win strategies, proposal staffing, development of pricing, contract terms and conditions, and risk reviews for net new pursuits and large projects within the Energy Automation business segment. Safety and Quality: **·** **Responsible for messaging the importance of safety and excellence in the development and execution of projects within** **Energy Automation business segment** **, including** **_segment-specific_** **safety plans and Quality Management System (QMS) allocation, as applicable.** ·Accountable for ensuring project managers conduct client survey and project lessons learned sessions in their area and connecting the results into specific and national process improvement and best practices with the Energy Automation business segment. ·Accountable for the assessment of project/program risks and business decisions within the Energy Automation business segment and engagement of company leadership for review/approval of new business models and novel risks. ·Accountable for the development of quality standard pursuit content, project approaches, and project descriptions for the Energy Automation business segment and consulted for their application to specific pursuits. ·Consulted on safety and technical training plans and specific courses for the Energy Automation business segment. Staff Recruitment and Development: + **Accountable for fostering a positive and inclusive national team culture around the** **Energy Automation business segment** **which embodies the MacCulture Principles and company objectives.** + Responsible for coordinating with NIA Department Managers to drive recruitment and development of staff needed to grow the Energy Automation business segment, including project leadership and office center of excellence leads. + Responsible for the identification and development of office champions for the Energy Automation business segment as primary interfaces to each organization. + Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for selected direct reports and participating in evaluations of other Energy Automation business segment staff as required. + Responsible for training and attendance to industry events in pursuit of excellence and keeping up with fast-moving and changing market trends. Project Execution: + **Accountable for demonstrating creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems within the execution of the** **Energy Automation business segment** + Consulted for identification and implementation oversight of effective change management practices on projects in the Energy Automation business segment and proactive work through corrective actions where deficiencies are identified. + Consulted for overall identification and implementation of project management methods, procedures, tools, and technology to win new work and to execute existing work more profitably in the Energy Automation business segment. + Consulted for the oversight and direction for engineering projects in the Energy Automation business segment, including the project management, project planning, scheduling, resource management, budgeting, and the establishment/execution of critical project objectives. + Accountable for profitability and financial performance planning and tracking of the Energy Automation business segment projects portfolio.Consulted on oversight and identification of Energy Automation business segment project and portfolio risks including the administration of the associated mitigation strategies to provide for a portfolio of work that meets or exceeds set goals. Intracompany Collaboration: + **Responsible for facilitating national collaboration across offices, T&D business lines, and Global Practices (GPs) to coordinate business plans and assist in the pursuit of** **Energy Automation business segment** **opportunities.** + Responsible for the development and coordination of international resource teams and external providers in support of execution in the Energy Automation business segment. + Responsible for working with business development and account management personnel for the development and administration of client and project capture plans. + Responsible for coordinating the national NIA organization to support the development of engineer-procure-construct (EPC) and program management opportunities within the Energy Automation business segment. **Qualifications** + Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant project execution experience with an attention to the strategic development of new clients, opportunities, and markets. + Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related degree from an accredited program. + Proven business management skills, including finance, accounting, leadership, and strategy. + Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred. + Strong project management skills preferred. + Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software is preferred. + Demonstrable understanding of Burns & McDonnell financials with proven track record of long-run financial performance. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills. + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. + Ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively. + Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients. + Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, poise, and discernment. + Proven planning, collaboration, and facilitation skills. + Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. + Employee management and development experience strongly preferred.
