Assists the unit in secretarial and patient care duties to maintain a smooth functioning unit under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse. Duties include but are not limited to: answering phone calls and directing them appropriately, greeting and assisting visitors arriving on the unit, assists with admissions and discharges, maintains desk areas, assisting with patient positioning, stocking carts and shelves, cleaning equipment, occasionally assisting with dietary tasks and other clerical duties as may be needed. Provides compassionate care to patients as well as performing various direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. High school diploma or GED required. Basic Life Support (BLS) through AHA or American Red Cross required. Work requires one to two months training to acquire necessary skills and knowledge. Frequently exposed to blood and/or body fluids or potentially infective materials. Requires constant hearing, speaking, vision and repetitive hand movement. Requires attention to detail despite frequent interruptions.
