Night Court Representative
    Job Title: Court Representative Night Court

Job Summary: 

CASES is looking for a Court Representative, Night Court. As a Court Representative, Night Court, you will play a pivotal role in fostering strong professional relationships with judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, and other court partners to support the program's mission and uphold CASES’ reputation in the Manhattan Criminal and Supreme Courts. Your primary responsibilities will include evaluating legal eligibility for the Supervised Release Program (SRP), conducting thorough screenings and assessments, and managing pretrial supervision cases with a focus on achieving intake targets and maintaining high-quality standards.           

The CASES Court Services department delivers court-mandated or approved programs throughout the criminal legal process. CASES runs community-based alternatives to detention (ATD) and incarceration (ATI), supported by the NYS Office of Court Administration (OCA) judiciary. CASES collaborates with various stakeholders to offer these ATD and ATI options to thousands of defendants across multiple boroughs. The arraignment team annually screens around 10,000 defendants for ATD and ATI programs, Supervised Release, and newSTART. 

 

Salary:  The salary for the Court Representative, Night Court position is $57,000 per year. 

 Shift Hours: The Court Representative, Night Court position is full time including weekends 5pm-1am 

 Location Address: 100 Centre Street, New York, NY 10003

 Workplace Flexibility: In-person, the Court Representative, Night Court position is on-site. 

 

What you will be doing: 

Build and maintain effective relationships with court stakeholders to facilitate SRP admissions and support CASES' credibility. Review arrest case information, RAP sheets, and attorney recommendations to determine legal eligibility for SRP. Ensure appropriate supervision levels are assigned as directed by the judge.Conduct interviews to explain SRP, administer screening tools, and make immediate recommendations for supervision and case management services.Ensure that participants are fully informed about the conditions of their pretrial supervision release and SRP expectations. Accompany participants to court appearances and advocate for their continued participation in SRP through verbal and written communication.Work closely with SRP staff in borough-based offices to ensure accurate information flow and compliance with supervision conditions.Provide prompt and accurate notifications to the court regarding participant non-compliance, including absconding, failure to report, or re arrest. Adhere to a flexible schedule to ensure consistent SRP coverage and perform other duties as assigned.

 

What we are looking for: 

Bachelor's degree required and/or 4 years of relevant work experience.Proven ability to function effectively in high-paced, high-stakes environments and independently.Strong public speaking skills with the ability to present detailed information and formulate persuasive arguments in court.Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.Demonstrated sensitivity to and interest in issues faced by justice-involved individuals.Capacity to quickly gather, evaluate, and act on information within time constraints.Experience working effectively with diverse populations and staff. Commitment to social justice and knowledge of NYC criminal justice system and alternatives to incarceration programs. 

 Additional, preferred skills we are looking for but are not required: 

Bi-lingual candidates strongly preferred.
