The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs tests for patient diagnosis, progress or deterioration and medical research. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and gives radiopharmaceuticals to patients when indicated and uses high-level imaging equipment to record images of the radioactive material in the patient’s body. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works in collaboration with physicians to provide the images for interpretation to study and diagnose a medical condition. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist gives doses of radiation to patients internally to treat various medical conditions when prescribed by a physician. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist participates in a variety of technical tasks, tests and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Receives consultation requests and checks for special instructions from the requesting physician. Consults with the radiologist as necessary + Coordinates and participates in a variety of technical procedures, including in vitro and in vitro studies; operates radiation detection and measurement instrumentation including stationary imaging devices, scintillation gamma and other apparatus for in vitro counting + Calibrates and prepares radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients; formulates radiopharmaceutical materials from pre-prepared kits + Calibrates instruments and reviews calibration data to detect any instrument malfunction + Calculates data to include results of patient studies and radioactive decay + Evaluates recorded images for technical quality + Processes computerized image data to include function curves and reconstructed SPECT images + Assumes care of patients of all ages during an examination, and initiates life support measures for patients if necessary + Maintains the inventory of supplies in assigned areas; prepares and maintains records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing and disposal activities + Maintains records of order, including brachytherapy procedures, receipt and disposal of all radioactive material in the department + May be asked to provide some instruction and technical guidance to radiologic technology students or other advanced imaging techs; may also assist with training new employees + May be responsible for monitoring the Nuclear Medicine Department with a portable Geiger Counter to detect any radioactive possible contamination + May perform Nuclear Cardiology studies including image acquisition and processing and monitoring patient vital signs + May performs EKG prep, tracing and monitors for obvious change during cardiac studies + Ensures compliance with all applicable rules, regulations of the state department of health + Ensures compliance with all Radiation Safety (ALARA) and Quality Control programs/procedures applicable to Nuclear Medicine Procedures + Maintains professional acumen through attending in-service educational programs + Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies and procedures + Other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements: + Level I & II + Graduate of an AMA approved Nuclear Medicine Technology training program and/or meets all state required educational & licensing/certification standards. + Level II Position Requirements: + Possesses at least two years of experience in the Nuclear Medicine field • One –two years prior supervisory or Team Lead experience. + Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice + Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable + Current CPR if applicable + TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable + Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation) + Must meet all federal, state and local requirements + Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site + Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements + Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required + Computer proficiency required + Must be at least 18 years of age Benefits At Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits: + Competitive pay & weekly paychecks + Health, dental, vision, and life insurance + 401(k) savings plan + Awards and recognition programs *Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.
