OVERVIEW
The Garage Mechanic performs installation, correction, maintenance, and repairs on equipment such as automatic transmissions, hydraulic systems, dual reduction drives, gear cases, complicated systems of mobile equipment such as fork lifts, pay loaders, etc.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs, connects, maintains, and repairs equipment such as clutches, pressure plates, bearings, oil seals, brakes, tie rod ends, steering parts, etc., using tools such as wrenches, gauges, sanding and grinding equipment, hand tools, power tools, hoists, hand seat grinders, voltage and ohm meters, other testing equipment, etc. Plans major and difficult installations from blueprints, sketches, and diagrams. Cuts, brazes, and welds brackets, bolts, bearings, universal joints, etc. Performs complicated tests and adjustments concerned with hydraulic pressure, voltage, governor, and valve settings, etc. Repair and rebuild internal combustion engines. Adjusts ignitions, brakes, voltage regulators, etc. Makes repairs to automotive electrical systems. Cuts, bends, insulates, and installs tubing and fittings. Tests generators, starters, fuel pumps, compression checks, etc., using related instruments. Paints equipment using hand and spray application. Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams. Determines materials and supplies needed. Performs all jobs in accordance with established safety practices and sanitation standards. WORK EXPERIENCES
A minimum of 3 years of experience working in maintenance or in a mechanical position in an industrial or related setting.
