Non-Certified CS SPD Technician - Endoscopy

Non-Certified CS/SPD Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical tools and hospital equipment. It is your job to make sure that the sterilized tools are then organized into trays containing the instruments required for routine or special surgeries. You are also responsible for checking equipment to make sure it is in good repair and up to date.  

A caregiver in this position works 9:00am – 5:30pm with on-call requirements.   

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments and distribution equipment.  

Provide case care management.  

Properly handle equipment, instruments and chemicals.  

Perform preventative maintenance.  

Observe personal protective equipment standards in the decontamination process.  

Scan, sort, inspect and assemble, wrap and label instruments by instrument list as documented in the procedure.  

Perform record keeping.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

A high school diploma or GED.  

If not already obtained, Sterile Processing Distribution certification (CRST) by IAHCSMM or CBSPD is required within 2 years following the completion of the new hire period. 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

1 year of healthcare experience or a similar background in mechanical/manufacturing assembly. Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F) or a similar role will be considered.

Physical Requirements:

Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull and navigate supply carts weighing >than 75 pounds.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
