As a Central Service Technician, you will be directly involved in the management of our general hospital and surgical instruments, as well as the trays and related materials. This involves the decontamination, inspection, sorting, assembly, wrapping, sterilization and storage of instruments. In this role, you will also be responsible for the cart assembly, stocking and delivery of the supplies.
A caregiver in this position works Evening shift from 2:00PM - 10:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Decontamination - Disassemble and clean all general surgical and hospital instrumentation and equipment per established procedure.Use appropriate chemicals for cleaning or disinfecting supplies.Handle contaminated instruments and supplies per established procedure to ensure worker safety.Preparation and Packaging - Inspect instrumentation and equipment for defects, functionality and cleanliness per departmental procedure.Sort and assemble instrumentation and supplies per instrument count sheets and established procedures.Select and use appropriate packaging materials and methods of wrapping. Initials instrumentation per procedure for tracking purposes.Sterilize instrumentation and equipment according to departmental standards.Perform quality assurance monitoring per manufacturer's direction.Maintain complete and accurate daily logs.Notifies supervisors and/or appropriate department of potential and/or needed repairs so there is no delay in service.Store instrumentation and equipment providing optimum sterility and/or infection control conditions per established AAMI, AORN and APIC standards.Handles and rotates stock per departmental policies.Store supplies away in proper place, keeping the Central Service Department neat and clean per department policy.Complete all charge forms as necessary.Order supplies as necessary to ensure par levels for daily operations.Stock specialty and case carts accurately by following pick lists."Stock carts/designated areas accurately per established par levels.Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or equivalent.Ability to read, write and perform basic math functions in order to maintain accurate record. Ability to work independently.Ninety days on the job training to learn the basic skills and departmental policies.Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:
Be able to lift up to 40lbs and push/pull carts up to 400 lbs.Dexterity sufficient to perform day to day instrument counting, sorting and assembly.Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.Requires working under stressful conditions.Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.Ability to perform duties while walking, standing, stooping and lifting.Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time; ability to work in an environment with temperature changes; ability to distinguish colors to utilize color-coded systems used for instrument identification.Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
