NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER (TITLE 32)
Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2320000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard. Responsibilities As a NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER (TITLE 32), WG-3705-10, you will inspect aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and perform fluid analysis. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Determine test method, prepare fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection. Interpret nondestructive inspection test results, and provide information about defects to repair center. Perform Oil Spectrometry process and analyze wear metal content on engine lubricating oil and other fluids, and recommends corrective action. Establish radiation areas for radiographic operations. Perform nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems. Determine metallurgical information of components according to alloy, temper, conductivity, and associated factors. Apply magnetic particle and/or liquid penetrant inspection to detect and interpret the relevancy of flaws in a variety of parts. Ensure the equipment and solutions are in compliance with technical guides and quality standards before performing tests. Perform all processing tasks, to include, dipping items in penetrant or magnetic particle baths, washing and drying, magnetizing and demagnetizing ferrous items, and subjecting them to Ultra Violet black light to detect and evaluate flaws. Use and maintain all necessary tools to complete work. Maintain bench stock levels of parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels. Use tools and equipment associated with testing being conducted in the shop, as well as hand and power tools to do the work. Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment. Use and assure proper fit of required Personal Protective Equipment and clothing. Follow federal and state rules when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards. Perform clean-up duties, such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in the assigned area. Maintain records and document actions. Manually document actions taken and/or enter information into an automated system. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. May be required to successfully complete a trial period. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. May be required to obtain an appropriate clearance to perform the work in sensitive areas. Technicians are required to perform annual task evaluations on each inspection duty in order to maintain certification. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ยง 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. Military Grades: Enlisted, may not exceed rank of TSgt. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience which demonstrates the ability to set up and operate test equipment, use test apparatus to apply tests to material or products, record readings, observe and record established reactions, and classify according to defined categories. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess specialized experience or training in using ultrasonic and/or eddy current inspection techniques to observe, measure, and detect discontinuities and flaws; experience classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies, and recommending courses of action for items of equipment; experience recommending engine components to be inspected and forwarding results to the appropriate authority; experience performing scheduled inspections of testing equipment ensuring compliance with established technical regulations and procedures. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
