North America Product Manager

The position is accountable for leading our Insulation product line for North America in the Nonwovens business.  The role includes partnering with customers, industry experts, and internal partners to develop insights based on market and competitive intelligence and formulate actionable segment strategies. This individual will lead the product strategies for new product development and manage a product portfolio to deliver top and bottom line growth. The position will work with the commercial teams to ensure the effective positioning and commercialization of our products to ensure our market leading position.  In addition, the role will be responsible for the product portfolio to ensure the on-going competitiveness of the product platform.  The position will report to the Global Marketing Director for Nonwovens (NW).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Lead the product strategy based on deep customer and market understanding.

Accountable for understanding the markets, ecosystems and segments relevant to the product platform. Strong focus on low slope roof systems and secondary focus on commercial building exteriors. Integrates knowledge from external and internal sources at multiple points of the value chain to provide a single view of the platform for the Nonwoven organization. Strong focus on system sellers and purchasers, with secondary focus on installers and distribution channels. Accountable for understanding the current and future competitive product offerings, partnering with Market Intelligence, Margin Enhancement and business commercial teams, to ensure Owens Corning products offer un-paralleled value and performance. Defines how we position our current and future products in the markets and applications we serve to maximize the value created for customers and for Owens Corning. Works closely with business & functional leaders to understand the overall business objectives and then develops and leads a process to gain alignment on an appropriate product strategy to meet the goals of Nonwovens.

Metrics:

Lead development and publish consolidated view of the market environment and competitive structure within the product platform, resulting in development of recommended actions to deliver business plan. Defines market segments, OC targets and positioning, and identifies gaps relative to current. Articulates connection between product category strategy/metrics and the overall business strategy/metrics.

2: Delivers the product pipeline according to the strategy to meet customer needs, in partnership with S&T.

Ensures the voice of the customer is present throughout the product development and decision making process. Leverage the new product process to create a continuous flow of ideas into the product development funnel, ensuring selected projects are prioritized and resourced to deliver business case objectives and financials. Drives new product initiatives through New Product Development and Product Review Board (PRB) including the accurate representation of the business cases in the Velocity tool to execute the product roadmap and respond to changing external conditions to drive product platform performance. Lead product launch process including support of industrialization, go to market strategy development, and execution (eg. marketing material development, sales training, customer conversion support). Partners with Science and Technology team to identify, prioritize, and deliver development of technology platforms, when required by the market. Owns and delivers sustainability related market requirements within product category, supported by technical teams.

Metrics:

Defined, aligned, and resourced product strategies to deliver and capture value for key customer segments and customers, in partnership with commercial excellence and sales. Executed product development projects – on time, meeting defined requirements, and hitting business case targets. Meets or exceeds enterprise product vitality index targets (PVI) for strategic product lines. Increase in OC market share for key product platforms across the regions and businesses.

3: Provide strong and routine support to the commercial teams (sales, commercial excellence, supply chain) in developing and executing commercial strategies.

Partnering with commercial team, builds strong relationships with key customers to understand pain points and opportunities for value creation. Translates deep understanding of the nonwovens customers’ business models and processes into analysis to ensure that our products and services deliver value. Partner closely with the commercial team in developing and executing strategies. Needs back customer segmentation. Identifying and prioritizing value creation opportunities for key accounts. Appropriate cost to serve optimization for non-key segments. Pricing strategy to capture value.

Metrics:

Defined, aligned, and resourced strategies to deliver and capture value for key customer segments and customers, in partnership with commercial excellence and sales. Responsible for volume, revenue and margin growth with key segments and customers – aligned targets, how to win, and results (commercial teams are accountable). Pricing delta for Nonwoven products versus competitors in key segments / markets. Cost to serve targets and results for non-key segments.

4: Drives execution throughout Nonwovens organization to ensure portfolio delivers against business objectives. 

Understands the financial and operational implications of their products and how their product strategy impacts the broader product leadership and business strategy for Nonwovens. Prioritizes the activities within the global product platform to align and support delivery of overall business objectives. Supports commercial teams as noted above. Leads ongoing portfolio optimization work in support of cost leadership, including but not limited to SKU rationalization, product transfer support, operational mix strategy, sourcing productivity support, etc.

Metrics:

Responsible for defined and aligned portfolio targets – unit cost, productivity, efficiency. Responsible for developing and aligning execution roadmaps (operations teams accountable). Quarterly progress checks against metrics and recommendations for further improvements/risk mitigation.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An undergraduate degree is required (technical degree preferred); an MBA or equivalent working experience is strongly preferred. Effective planning and execution of communications for internal and external stakeholders, both written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and marketing programs and pipelines that deliver quantifiable financial returns.  Experience in translating marketing trends into marketing product strategies based upon trend analyses and feedback. Experience with cross-functional teams in matrix organizations.  Aptitude to build strategic and execution-focused plans and alliances with partner leadership. Experience working in markets with with multiple distribution channels and influencers. 5+ years of experience in commercial building materials and applications, with a preference for deep knowledge of low slope roofing markets. 5+ years of Sales or Marketing experience in B2B environment.

Experience in both a marketing role and a technical role Proven ability formulating global marketing strategies Experience in shaping business strategy and leading strategic planning
