North American Regional Environmental Leader

The North American Regional Environmental Leader monitors the environmental performance of the organization within the Nort American Region. Provides technical expertise on environmental and regulatory matters related to air, water, and waste including emissions, releases, permitting and reporting. Implements environmental policies and procedures, provides support to sustainability assessments or research. Assess corporate and business impacts of new and pending environmental regulations and legislation, work with business units to develop strategy, plans, and schedules for implementation, communicate sustainability policy, strategy, and progress with internal and external stakeholders, review, monitor, and disseminate new regulations and regulatory changes, develop and implement tools for compliance, coordinate environmental compliance across business units, and conduct environmental audits of facilities. Provides education and tools for the implementation of Axalta’s Zero Incident Culture and partnering with site leadership and EHS resources in their journey to become part of ONE Axalta. 

Job Description

Drives strategic and technical improvements in and ensure compliance with environmental regulatory requirements at North American sites.Provide technical assistance supporting environmental compliance programs (air, water, and waste)Provides environmental oversight of consultants.Assists facility EHS in managing relations with all regulatory bodies at the local, state, and federal level.Monitor and support environmental internal audits and resolution of findings.Communicate within the organization to ensure consistent interpretations and implementation of environmental regulations.Work independently to gather data required to compile compliance records. Analyze data, make interpretations, and report abnormal conditions.Monitor and perform Environmental training and regular Environmental inspection/audits.Provide expertise in Environmental Incident reporting & investigation.Oversees Environmental initiatives and strategic plans, provides guidance and direction.Monitor key leading and lagging indicators and use these metrics to facilitate training requirements and policy changes. Provide leadership and guidance in developing management systems and processes to support Responsible Care and ISO certification.Participate in the Axalta internal EHS Audit Program.Coordinate activity between Sites and Corporate stake holders to drive toward achievement of Axalta Sustainability Goals in the area of Scope 1 & 2 emission reduction, and waste, water and air pollution reduction.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering, Science, Environmental Science, or related technical field required. Minimum 8 years of Environmental program management experience in the manufacturing field – preferably in chemical or pharmaceuticals.Practical experience required for the following Environmental disciplines:Expert knowledge of Environmental Standards - CAA, RCRA, Stormwater, WastewaterExpert in estimating air emissions from chemical facilities using EPA approved methods.Environmental Permitting and Management experienceRC 14001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001Strong project management and leadership skills, including the ability to prioritize, balance and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, adjust to changing priorities and make decisions with speed and accuracy based on available information.Travel requirement (Domestic US Travel 25%)
