Primary Responsibilities

In the role of HDR North Central Region Area Safety Manager, we'll count on you to:

Demonstrate expertise and knowledge in managing company's SHE program in a regional environmentProficiently manage and lead SHE staff in support of all regional SHE requirements within an office and field environmentSkillfully and expertly work with senior management to successfully implement company's SHE programBe proficient in SHE training and able to facilitate this training as requiredBe proficient in SHE auditing and inspection protocols, behavior-based safety observation program implementation/oversight, and review of Job Hazard AnalysisUnderstand all SHE processes and procedures in support of SHE requirements within office and field environmentSystematic assessment of site conditions and contract requirements, and the determination of applicable US Federal (i.e., EPA, OSHA, DoD) and/or State rules regulations , as well as US national and international industry consensus standards (where applicable).Development of a comprehensive and integrated Project and Office SHE Management System based upon the HDR Corporate SHE program, incorporating the areas of SHE Policy development, assessment and SHE planning, Implementation and Operation, Checking and Corrective Action and an effective Management Review process to determine the suitability and effectiveness of the Management System.Provide direction and oversee Project Safety Managers’ and Safety Coordinators’ (SC’s) support for project locations as required to ensure compliance with project contractual obligations.Support Area SC’s in the performance of all SHE related work activities, including the development and implementation of project specific Safety Plans, office specific safety plans, support the assessment of regular and non-routine work assignments and responsibilities.Establishing, making provisions for, and maintaining the SHE technical proficiencies (i.e., safety training) of all Area personnel. Responsibilities include facilitating formal and awareness trainings in both field and office locations.Ensuring that scheduled safety environmental compliance audits and inspections are effectively completed, including the definition and management of corrective and preventive actions; ensures SHE compliance records are organized and maintained per applicable regulations; periodic reporting of audit results (including non-compliance) to the Project Manager and HDR Corporate SHE.Ensuring the effective coordination of environmental compliance sampling/testing as required by applicable permits and regulations, including interface with external laboratories relative to sampling protocol(s), chain of custody, etc.Where contractually obligated, and at the direction of an authorized client representative, reporting environmental non-compliance notifications to the appropriate internal and external agencies; maintaining all required documentation and records.Oversight of the development, implementation and monitoring the programs’ waste reduction effortsPreferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene or other related fieldPrevious SHE work experience in construction, mining/tunneling, water infrastructure, DOT, Oil and Gas and/or AE firmA minimum of 5 years experience managing and directing employees in the course of performing job dutiesRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene or other related field A minimum of 10 years experience in Safety Health and Environmental field Certification in one or more SHE fields such as (Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), (GSP) Graduate Safety Practitioner, or equivalent SHE Project/Program Management experienceExtensive knowledge of OSHA ANSI regulatory standards Knowledge and application of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software Team-oriented with proven oral and written skills to support company SHE policy and procedural requirements Experienced and proven leadership skills necessary to effectively manage a staff in support of company SHE requirements An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
