ABOUT THE POSITION

Northeast Structures Director | Hybrid | NY | NJ

VHB is seeking a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial, and experienced Structures Director for the Northeast (NY/NJ region). In collaboration with the Regional Manager, Managing Directors of each office (Long Island, NYC, and New Jersey), and Service and Market Leaders, the Northeast Structures Director will oversee our regional structures design service to strengthen and expand regional offerings; attract, develop, and engage talented people; foster communication, connection, and collaboration of regional team members; advance the use of technology and foster innovation on structural projects; and promote technical excellence and ensure QA/QC.

 

This hire will lead the project scoping, planning, analysis, conceptual, preliminary to final engineering design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects, from railroad to highway. The ideal candidate will manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers in the development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of structural projects from bridge infrastructure to vertical, as well as oversee the structures inspection program.

 

This hire will be part of the Northeast Regional Leadership Team and be part of decision making to drive strategic growth across the region and beyond.

 

Responsibilities

Leads, develops, and/or supports initiatives in support of and in response to VHB’s Strategic Plan and regional strategic goalsLeads the project scoping, planning, analysis, conceptual, preliminary to final engineering design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects, from railroad to highwayEvaluates structural offerings to ensure alignment with client needs and industry trends within regional footprintImplements recruiting, retention, and training strategies and skills development plans.Monitors the deployment of people on projects and pursuits and manages multiple concurrent projects of various topics and complexityPrepares and participates in client and proposal related presentations Has budgetary responsibility for large projects (typically net revenue greater than $10 million)Promotes continuous quality monitoring and improvement. Monitors quality standards and practicesDirects the work of structures teams within the region. Carries out supervisory responsibilities either directly or indirectly through subordinate supervisors, planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; coaching and mentoringCoordinate on teaming decisions with the Regional Manager,  Managing Directors, Market and Service LeadersTake an active role in the development and mentoring of the structures group staff

Qualifications

NY PE licensure requiredBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required, Master’s degree preferred15+ years of professional technical structural engineering experience in the Northeast (NY and/or NJ) required10 years’ experience managing a structural team requiredStructural project management experience in Long Island, NYC region, and NY state requiredExperience with NYSDOT projects requiredDemonstrated and progressive relationships with NY area clients Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations and programsProven ability to manage a multidisciplinary team

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Hauppauge, NY is $176,000-240,000 and New York City is $185,000-250,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education and experience.
