Summary:

The Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant functions in a collaborative practice with physician(s) in an inpatient setting. Autonomously performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and intervention according to approved protocols. Provides practice/clinical/call coverage and may round for physician(s) during periods of absence. Prescribes a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including continued hospital admission/discharge and prescriptive authority. Collaborates with the assigned team members to support and adjust plan of care and length of stay for patient care needs. Collaborates with physicians for overnight backup telephone call.

This position would support the inpatient unit and consult team. Friday/Saturday/Sunday - 12 hour shifts

Education and Experience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses Master’s Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and (PMHNP) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification required. Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred.

Physician Assistants Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies and minimum 1 year of experience in related specialized area strongly preferred.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

Current Texas professional registered nurse license

Current Texas professional advance practice registered nurse license

Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) required

Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required

Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred

Physician Assistants

Current Texas professional physician assistant license

Certified as a PA-C

Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required

Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
