Basic Job Functions:Nucor Tubular Products – Birmingham is seeking to fill the position of Quality Engineer. The role of the Quality Engineer includes technical support of Operations and Sales by providing product knowledge on Quality Functions and Specifications. The position will have direct interaction with customers, and supplier representatives on industry specifications for compliance, to investigate product complaints to identify root causes, and to implement corrective and preventative actions. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge in product development, problem solving, root cause investigation, corrective actions, effectiveness evaluations, and creating and/or interpreting Quality related documentation and performing process capability and process performance analysis. The role will also apply strategic tools to improve process capability, eliminate defects, along with implementing/maintaining the QMS (Quality Management System). This position will assist in process audits and take the lead role in ISO certifications. In addition, this position will work with operations to order and maintain calibration records on measurement tools. The role of Quality Engineer will also be required to perform Charpy testing along with lab testing backup. This position will work with various departments and locations in Birmingham, Trinity, and Decatur to define improved performance and optimize the finished product.

Minimum Qualifications: Four-year degree in engineering or related field or technical degree in a related field or equivalent industry experience in lieu of educational requirement. Preferred Qualifications: CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) certification Lead Auditor certified Experience in quality, operations, manufacturing in industrial environment Experience with CNC Machines Strong analytical and process/product investigation skills Manage QMS documentation and revisions Oversees the plant calibration system Skilled at root cause and effect analysis Proficiency in material testing, especially Metallography and Charpy Testing Work history responding to order inquiries, technical specs, and complaint resolution Experience with applied science in a tubular manufacturing operation
