Job Description
Under direction and supervision of Registered Nurse, assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) and behavioral coping skills, provides clinical intervention, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
Job Responsibility
Prepares patient for examination. Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve patient of anxiety. Ensures patient is screened according to protocol, and assures consent for the procedure has been obtained, when necessary. Positions patient on examination table for optimum testing procedure and conditions. Performs nuclear and nuclear cardiology procedures as prescribed by ordering physician.Sets-up equipment to administer prescribed procedure in timely fashion. Calculates, prepares and dispenses radiopharmaceuticals to patient. Documents radiopharmaceuticals dispensed. Monitors patient condition during examination, recognizing and reporting abnormal changes. Obtains images of anatomical area of interest, utilizing proper techniques to ensure appropriate views are captured. Collects all pertinent data and calculations for physician interpretation. May determines need for more extensive evaluations beyond preliminary instructions. Acknowledges and reviews images in computer system. Ensures accuracy of all patient data. Processes imaging and prints CDs, as required. Gathers previous related patient reports, as required. Performs regular maintenance and calibration of Nuclear Medicine apparatus and auxiliary equipment. Adheres to Infection Control guidelines in the performance of duties. Maintains cleanliness of work area, equipment and accessories. Performs related duties as required.
Job Qualification
Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program, required. Current New York State Department of Health licensure as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, required. R.T. (N) registration with American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) OR CNMT registration with Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required. Prior Nuclear Medicine experience, preferred. Ability to communicate effectively, required
