Job Summary:

Mechanical encompasses the skills and knowledge's from the following disciplines, including, but not limited to, pipe fitter, welder, machinist, millwright and ironworker. These personnel are expected to perform in the capacity of a primary skilled journeyman in at least one discipline of the two trades.

Under indirect and intermittent supervision:

- Performs specific tasks, which require experience, classroom training and on-the-job training to obtain qualification to install and maintain a wide variety of plant systems and components.

- Troubleshoots and repairs plant component failures and discrepancies.

- Uses a variety of test equipment, hand and power tools.

- Reads, interprets, complies with and/or works from drawings, data sheets, vendor manuals, technical procedures and other work documents.

- Tech reviews and follows written procedures for the performance of work, on both nuclear safety related and non-safety related systems and components.

- Directs other NMJ's or other tradesmen, both on a routine, day-to-day basis and as project and/or protection leader.

Key Accountabilities:

Duties and Responsibilities - Mechanical

1. OPERATES and INSPECTS Pendant Cranes and Hoists, Mobile Cranes, and Overhead Cranes in the Turbine Building and Reactor Building.

2. USES precision tools and equipment to FABRICATE and MODIFY parts or tools to tolerances less than 0.001". OPERATES and MAINTAINS machine shop equipment such as, but not limited to, Lathes, Milling machines, and Drill Presses.

3. INSPECTS, FABRICATES, REPAIRS, AND INSTALLS piping joints (unions,flanges,etc.), steel and copper tubing, and piping supports.

4. INSTALLS, REMOVES, INSPECTS, ADJUSTS, REPAIRS plant system piping hangers and snubbers.

5. TROUBLESHOOTS, INSPECTS, REPAIRS and/or TESTS a variety of equipment including, but not limited to:

1. Hydraulic Control Units, Hydraulic valve operators, Air/Oil cylinders, Safety Relief valves, Globe valves, Swing Check valves, Plug valves, Diaphragm valves, Butterfly valves, Ball valves, Bolted Bonnet Gate valves, Pressure Sealed Gatevalves, Turbine Throttle and Stop valves, Fisher Control valves, Explosive valves, Torus Vacuum Breakers, Target Rock seal welded valves, Back-Flow preventers, and Main Steam Isolation Valve (MSIV) nitrogen manifolds.

2. Gear pumps, Screw pumps, Vane pumps, Piston pumps, Diaphragmpumps, Horizontal Centrifugal Pull-Out pumps, Horizontal Centrigugal Split-Casing pumps, Vertical Centrifugal pumps including multi-staged pumps, and Pump Mechanical Seals.

3. Reciprocating type air compressors, Centrifugal type air compressors, Control and Station air dryers, blowers, fans and dampers in ventilating systems.

4. Rigid Drive couplings, Flexible Drive couplings, Turbine turning gears, Reactor Recirculation MG Set Fluid Drive coupling, gear speed increasers, reduction gears, and bearings. PERFORMS ALIGNMENT or rotating equipment using the single dial indicator method, couple reverse dial indicator method and using state-of-the-art Laser alignment equipment.

5. Emergency Diesel Generators (Fairbanks Morse), Combustion Turbine Generators (CTG), Diesel Engine Fire Pumps (General Motors and Cummins), and RCIC and HPCI Turbines.

6. Steam, air, and gas condensate traps, strainers, air medium filters, charcoal, desiccant, and mesh type filtration medium, travelling and stationary screens, condensers, and demineralizers.

7. PERFORMS AND MAINTAINS CERTIFICATION for NUCLEAR GTAW (TIG) Welding, SMAW (ARC) Welding, FCAW (MIG) Welding, and Acetylene (GAS) Welding and Soldering.

8. Performs general maintenance on plant cooling towers including INSPECTION and REPAIR of the cooling tower deicing system.

Duties and Responsibilities - Common

1. MEETS entry-level requirements and MAINTAINS QUALIFICATIONS unique to the Nuclear Industry in accordance with the accredited Training Program and applicable State and Federal Regulations.

2. INTERPRETS blueprints, engineering instructions, drawings, diagrams, schematics, computerized information systems, vendor instruction manuals and uses charts, tables, graphs, mathematics, etc. to TROUBLESHOOT and REPAIR components.

3. PERFORMS Rigging activities, including CALCULATING, LIFTING and RIGGING of CRITICAL and HEAVY loads over safety related equipment.

4. OPERATES aerial work platforms, boom bucket trucks, stake trucks, forklifts and other company vehicles as required.

5. Responsible for BUILDING and DISMANTLING of scaffolding or work platforms including suspended scaffolds in accordance with safety standards to support maintenance activities.

6. TROUBLESHOOTS, REPAIRS, REPLACES,LOGS, CHARGES AND EVACUATES HVAC equipment.

7. ACTS as a member of the Fermi Integrated Resource Support Team ((FIRST), RESPONSIBLE for repairing minor plant deficiencies in a self-sufficient manner. This requires the member to work with other departments as multi-discipline team, PLANNING and PREPARING work packages, REQUISITIONING parts and equipment using a Requisition of Stores (ROS).

8. USES and/or MAINTAINS equipment such as; hand tools, impact wrenches, grinders, feeler and depth gauges,torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, lifting and rigging equipment, thermometers, pressure gauges, torches, soldering equipment, drills and drill presses, arbor press, saws, vacuum pumps, laser shaft and v-belt alignment equipment, valve grinding tools, dew point hygrometers, pipe end preparation equipment, hydraulic torque wrenches, dial and digital calipers, freeze seal equipment, refrigerant reclaim and recovery equipment, voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, meggers, hydrometers, DC scout, motor power monitor, VOTES equipment, digital low resistance ohmmeters, infrared camera, Alber Corp battery discharge tester, current transformers, digital timers, current sources, hipots, rotation testers, frequency generators, 504 relay test set, SR- 76 relay test set, phase angle equipment, baker surge tester, Visilight, Gould recorder, oscilloscopes, etc.

9. EDITS and PROVIDES technical review of related procedures and work documents.

10. ACTS as a PROTECTION LEADER. Responsible for VERIFICATION of adequate protective tagging and barriers to PROTECT PERSONNEL and equipment during maintenance activities. Provides OWN protection during motor operated valve testing.

11. ACTS as a JOB LEADER. As a leader, directly and indirectly SUPERVISE'S other NMJ's, and tradesman and provides contractor control.

12. Responsible for IDENTIFICATION and timely NOTIFICATION of plant/non conforming items/deficiencies using the CARD system.

13. Responsible for COMPLYING with and providing full documentation for written work directions in work requests and plant procedures (reference and continuous use). Validates information in procedures and provides feedback to supervision. INITIATES Technical Change Notices (TCN) or Document Change Requests (DCR) to correct deficiencies in plant procedures.

14. RESPONDS to plant emergencies and emergency drills as members of the Radiological Emergency Response Preparedness team (RERP).

15. USES computer based automated work management system and various other applications to research parts, work history, component information, and company information.

16. USES chemicals and compressed gases such as chlorine, acids, caustics, hydrogen, ammonia, hydrazine, carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, argon, tri-chloroethane, refrigerants, etc., when servicing equipment. Responsible for obtaining and complying with information from material safety data sheets (MSDS).

17. INTERFACES with the Engineering Departments (System and Plant) to DESIGN, REVIEW, IMPLEMENT, and TEST Engineering Design Packages (EDPs) on components and systems.

18. Responsible for PERFORMING WORK in accordance with policies and practices to MAINTAIN equipment performance within the limits of the technical Specifications of the plant Operating License and other licensing documents as required. PROVIDES corrective action recommendations to Plant Supervision and Management.

19. ACTS as member of the Curriculum Review Committee (CRC) tasked with meeting the needs and standards of ACAD 92-008, Guidelines for Training and Qualification of Maintenance Personnel.

20. ASSISTS training on a volunteer basis as a subject matter expert in DESIGNING REVIEWING, and APPROVING training material, PERFORMING on the job training (OJT), classroom instruction and evaluation (TPE) of other nuclear maintenance journeymen, journeymen in progress or apprentices.

Qualifications

- Must have completed a company recognized apprenticeship in the trade of mechanical

OR

A minimum of six years military schooling and experience in maintenance and has attained the rank of E-5 within his/her

skill range in the military, and be qualified to perform nuclear plant maintenance

OR

Letters from employers which verify eight years or more of hands-on experience in the mechanical classification.

Journeyperson letters must be on company letterhead, dated, signed by human resources, list classification, dates served

in the classification, and what candidate did in that capacity.

- Must have High School Diploma or GED. Must conform with ANSI standard N18.1 1971, "Selection and Training of

Nuclear Power Plant Personnel".

- Must have a first class journeyman skill in the mechanical trade

- May work as third class and/or helper in other trades.

- Must be able to complete all required initial training within two years of hire/transfer date.

- Must be able to train other maintenance personnel to perform in the lower skill levels of mechanical work. Perform on the

job training (OJT).

- Must be able to lift and handle tools, equipment parts, torque and impact wrenches, piping values, materials, etc.

- Must successfully pass all position required training and re-qualifications as deemed necessary to maintain and improve

the skill level of the mechanical trade.

- Must become proficient in various specific testing methodologies and techniques.

- Security screening and drug testing is required for access.

- Must take the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test and attain 'Recommended' scores. (Exception:

You will not be required to take the MASS test if you are an incumbent and/or changing location, or have previously taken

and passed the test at the same or higher score.)

- Must have a valid driver's license and meet Company driving standards.

- Must meet regulatory requirements per Fermi procedures.

- Must work shifts as assigned
