Nuclear Medicine Coordinator

What you'll do The Nuclear Medicine Coordinator acts as a working leader under the Medical direction of the Radiologist in charge, and under the general supervision of the Medical Imaging Supervisor. The NM Coordinator is responsible technical quality, safety and contribution toward the successful and effective operation of the Nuclear Medicine department. In addition, this individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to assist the Radiation Safety Officer, and Radiation Safety Manager with reports, records, and statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes for the Radiation Safety Program. This individual needs to have the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and provide the care needed. The NM Coordinator also serves as a subject matter expert and leadership resource to the Network Nuclear Medicine program as a whole, which may include minimal travel to additional sites. To provide high quality test results in a prompt and accurate fashion. Explains scans and procedures to the patients to set aside fears; properly performs all Nuclear Medicine studies and records all data into the appropriate logs Performs SPECT scans in accordance to our established SPECT scanning protocols Capture and process the radiographic images and submits it to the Radiologist before the official reading Performs protocol duties that include filing, logbook entries, and distribution of appropriate Nuclear Medicine documents Maintains appropriate record keeping for patient’s medical record, statistical information, radioactive utilization, and billing process Responsible for supervising their individual department and making sure there is a good workflow within their department. Prepares daily work schedules. Working closely with the scheduling department to maximize work schedules Evaluates work performance with competency assessments Provides in-service continuing education and maintains a good working relationship with all staff Provides leadership and motivation to staff Plans for utilization of staff working times, sets work schedules, defines duties, maintains effective attendance/punctuality control, and oversees all timecards are correct in coordination with the Medical Imaging Supervisors. Discusses problems and complaints with employees, attempts resolutions, and enlists help of the Supervisor/Manager if needed Participates in quality assurance on equipment as well as other Radiation Safety issues. Checks instrument calibrations daily; performs quality control procedures daily on equipment and reagents Orders isotopes, scanning kits, and exposure protection equipment as noted by the Supervisor, and leadership. Conducts ongoing equipment maintenance checks and reports all equipment malfunctions to the Medical Imaging Supervisor or Manager and if necessary will call service engineer for repair. Participates in Radiation Safety Issues within the organization. Assists Radiation Safety Officer in hospital wide matters relating to radiation protection, new regulations by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the NYS Department of Health, and for all safety matters as they relate to ionizing radiation as noted by the Supervisor. Assists in Radiation waste management with consistent and safe practices as observed by the Supervisor and Radiation Safety Manager, etc. Helps with the development and maintenance of the “Radiation Safety Manual” as requested by Radiation Safety Manager and /or Radiation Safety Officer. Helps to educate the hospital and other personnel in Radiation Safety matters as requested. Oversees the NMIS program for storage, handling and policies for Radiation Safety Maintains adequate level of inventory for routine and emergency Nuclear Medicine scans. Maintains adequate inventory of isotopes, scanning kits Attends the necessary meetings to keep up with changes within the department. Attends monthly department meetings, and leadership meetings and other informational sessions as requested. Adheres to Bassett confidentiality Policy and Patient Bill of Rights. Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed What we need from you Education: Completion of ASRT training program in Nuclear Medicine, required Bachelor's Degree of Science, preferred Experience: Minimum 3 years successful experience as a Nuclear Medicine technologist, required Minimum one year supervisory/Lead tech experience, required Licensure/Certifications: NYS license/Radiology Technologist/nuclear med tech, required ARRT-N Registration or CNMT certification, required BLS certification, required Skills: Attention to Detail Clinical Skills Customer Service Interacting with People Multi-Tasking Time Management Technical Skills Physical Requirements: Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Pay Range Minimum: USD $42.22/Hr. Pay Range Maximum: USD $63.33/Hr.
